Microsoft's the only console maker who thinks to just buy up everyone, even at tremendous costs

Microsoft's playing by different rules

Nintendo is playing by different rules (by being unique)

Sony played by the rules and got burned. Though that's not to say Sony didn't have it's own ulterior motives this gen (eg: blu-ray)

Kojima said he felt like he owed Sony to make MGS4 exclusive

Though that didn't stop MGS:Twin Snakes on the GCN, and MGS2 on the Xbox

There's really no telling when it comes to MGS5 or any franchise. Even MGS4 could one day be ported to 360. It's all about publishers wanting to make money.

If Sony just showed off 1 new exclusive they would outdo that.

the-very-best

Like what?

I can't think of anything.

EDIT: And Sony... exclusive? What? :P

Hey I never said I expected Sony to do it

Only Nintendo announces new exclusives at E3

Microsoft showed footage of a bunch of games we already knew about, and announced yet another exclusive they stole from Sony

If Sony just showed off 1 new exclusive they would outdo that.

Sony never bribed anyone. At most they promised to publish certain games, but that's about it.

If they bribed everyone, then everyone would always expect to be bribed. Publishers would constantly have Sony's throat.

I think Nintendo realized it would be risky NOT to do something drastic

Nintendo was in the unique position of being forced to do something new. And because it was Nintendo they were actually able to come through.

Yeah, there are certainly thing Microsoft could have done differently in Japan

but as it stands it's too late, and the system is dead.

However Japanese developers do see the 360's popularity in the US and are making games for it, but they are catered to a western audience alone.

Sony didn't let FF13 go

People need to realize Square-Enix is it's own entity. Square simply does not have faith that the PS3 alone can sustain enough sales to support FF13, that's all.

StryderK

Damage Control at its finest....

If Sony really did want to keep FF XIII, they would've money hatted SE like crazy! And everyone and their grandma knows loosing such a huge franchise to the X360 will be a crippling blow to the PS3 (not to mention send the wrong messge to say...Namco....and especially.....say...Konami). If I were Sony, I would've pay through my nose if that's necessary to keep it exclusive, at least timed-exclusive to the platform. But no, Sony didn't. And now they've just lost a potential customer, along with many others!

Sony never paid for FF before, neither did they pay for GTA

Markets change, and Sony doesn't think it worth it to secure every game they expected to be exclusive with immense money-hats.

Only Microsoft can run a business in the red like that.

Nothing's budging the 360 in Japan

It's like releasing a game for the Sega Saturn there

ViolentPressure

Wel.... I think every single X360 owner in Japan got Halo 3, that was in the top 10 over there at a point.

They could release DQ9 on the Sega Saturn and people would buy the system, for that game

But the sales would be severely limited, and would be very very temporary

no real growth or additional developer interest
