BravoOneActual Blog

Upon Further Review...

I didn't realize blogs would go all "witness protection" on our aises.

Nothing in feeds and as of yet, and no filter for frequent/favorite followers.

And another thing: I AM NOT IN A CULT AND I DON'T LEAD A CULT. I don't "follow" anybody, nor do I spout any dogma that needs to be "followed". I liked "Tracking" much better, but that ship sailed long ago. Of course "follow" is passive, yuppy-modern and vaguely politically correct, whereas as "track" is proactive and suggests hunting & stalking, so therefore it is to be avoided.

I'm right about the above sentence, you know. Subtle PCness creeps in everywhere these days. Gotta watch it.

I dunno, mates. I dunno...

Checked Out The New Site Beta.

I liked it.

I actually liked it.

I'll miss certain things and a certain comfortable "feel" the same way I miss the 2005 vintage of this very site, but all in all, it's a very thoughtful effort and it side steps the pitfalls of other gaming sites.

Tracking down long lost users was much, much easier and the majority of their user contributions, forum posts and blogs remain. Interesting.

There you go: A non-b*tch blog about GS.

Who'da thunk it?

To All Gaming and Tech Nerds (You Know Who You Are).

Two Youtube channels that I think are quite special.

Tek Syndicate (formerly razethew0rld) has a host that I instantly liked.  He reminds me of the guys I used to work for at a local scientific machine shop back in the '90's (I was a painter. If you need industrial finishes applied, I'm your man).  Very bright.  Very with it.

The show details everything from hardware reviews to gaming news to what's going on in the cyber-business world to incoming trends and government policy.  I love their delivery, sophistication and humility.  Must see TV for the plugged-in crowd or those who like to rub some brain cells together to make a little heat.  By "plugged in" I mean nerds, not yuppies.  I hate yuppies.

No.  Really.  I hate the mother**ckers.

This next one you've probably heard of:  AlphaOmegaSin.  He reminds of the OTHER guys I used to work WITH at said machine shop.  Excellent, acidic, frenetic and biting commentary and I can't help but love the guy.  He's bright and has good takes.  This made me laugh out loud.  At 0:19 and then continually afterward, actually.

Enjoy.

Edit:  Good music.  The link might disappear in comments (I have a 40% success rate with livefyre commenting).

My Feedbackula Feedback.

First off, go watch Feedbackula.  Johnny has some rather poignant things to say towards the last two minutes.

He also levels some well deserved indictments towards the community.

This linked content is a rehash (for which I apologize) of an older entry, but it could shed some light as to why the comment sections are overrun with a "certain kind" of participant.

To those who've tracked along with me over the years, you'll probably remember it.  To those who've come along after '11, here it is.

I can't help but think this contributed in some measure to the current state of this once-thriving and vibrant community.

As a side note, you will observe that all comments -- and yes, there were comments -- were erased upon implementation of Livefyre.

PC-centric Content. Various Screen Captures. Cyber Punk 2077.

Just tired of looking at the old entry.

I downloaded the vaunted Black Mesa Source Mod and captured a few screens from early on.

Pretty glorious if one were to ask me.

A scene that should be burned into any gamer's mental hard drive.  This game is a permanent blip on gaming's all time radar screen and the loving attention this one got across the board really reinvents the game for me.  You "graphics don't matter" guys really are trying too hard to sound artsy.  Could you ever go back now?  I don't think so.

If your rig has any duel core processor and any card close to a 8800GTX (or anything made after 2007), you have no excuses.  It'll run it.

I picked up Mars:  War Logs in the recent Steam sale.

It's actually quite a looker.

... And so is she.  I mean, really.  Does anyone ever wear a prom dress twice?  Looks like it was quite a party.  (Complete with a construction spool table.  Ah, memories.  I miss my twenties.)

It's not a bad first effort for an out-of-nowhere new IP.  A 7.5, I think.

Also, I just finished Dishonored.

I'm told this means she "likes" me.

Interesting...

I really liked this one.  It got better as it went and really gives a strong whiff, both visually and structurally, of Half-Life 2, which is never, ever a bad thing.

Recommended.

Also, for those of you who like all things CD Projekt Red (and who doesn't) I found this.

Not a whole lot of news, but anything they state is intriguing whenever they happen to speak.

Let's put it this way:  When Witcher 3 comes out, the backlog better be in a good place, or you might as well forget about whatever's left.  This a "clear the decks" kind of game and CDPR will not fail.

I expect Cyber Punk 2077 to deliver and look beautiful doing it.  I love the stuff coming out of eastern Europe and the former Soviet Bloc.  They're leaving the west and Japan in the dust right now, in my humble opinion.  Folks developing games out this region just seem to know what we want, so there is little compromise when it comes to "classical" gaming sensibilities married to innovation.  Western marketing and Japanese stodginess are my biggest gripes in the industry right now, and dev's like Projekt Red & Bohemia Interactive seem to do what they care about and make money doing it.  Win/win for all, I think.

I'm Not Sure Why.

But I want a pink Vita.

I'll probably come to my senses and settle for white or that earthy grey one.  Or really come to my senses and not get one at all.

But then again is not getting one really an option?

Didn't think so.
