An even simpler way to put it would be if Microsoft could only use money generated from a specific division in that exact division than how would they start new ones? If they were only able to pay for the Entertainment and Devices (gaming) division with gross profits from said division (of which there have never been) then how exactly do you plan to cover the enormous cost it takes to start that division?
If you think Microsoft's gaming devision cannot go bankrupt...think again.
There is the Antitrust law for that. Microsoft can't use their money they earned with their Windows division for their Gaming Devision. So if the Gaming Devision goes bankrupt...its bankrupt...simple as that. If they do not obey this rule they will get punished for breaking a law. And the goverment and shareholders will not be very happy with that...
A business with a monopoly over certain products or services may be in violation of antitrust laws if it has abused its dominant position or market power. Although not all anti-competitive behavior which is subject to antitrust laws involve illegal cartels or trusts, the following types of activity are generally prohibited.
- Bid rigging - A form of price fixing and market allocation, and involves an agreement in which one party of a group of bidders will be designated to win the bid
- Predatory pricing - The practice of a firm selling a product at very low price with the intent of driving competitors out of the market, or create a barrier to entry into the market for potential new competitors
- Price fixing - An agreement between business competitors selling the same product or service regarding its pricing
- Tying - The practice of making the sale of one good conditional on the purchase of a second distinctive good
- Vendor lock-in - Is a situation in which a customer is so dependent on a vendor for products and services that he or she cannot move to another vendor without substantial switching costs, real and/or perceived
- Geographic allocation - An agreement between competitors not to compete within each other's geographic territories.
- Walker Process fraud - Illegal monopolization through the maintenance and enforcement of a patent obtained via fraud on the Patent Office (the term comes from the Supreme Court case Walker Process Equipment, Inc. v. Food Machinery & Chemical Corp., 382 U.S. 172 (1965).
Its actually Microsoft that should be compared to Sega... not Sony...

You're absolutely 100% wrong.
Microsoft can and does use money from other divisions to cover the losses of their game division. The "Entertainment and Devices" division has yet to turn a profit for Microsoft, it has lost hundreds of millions of dollars (a few billion, actually.) In fact, it is not expected to turn a profit until 2008 ( http://www.gamespot.com/news/6154809.html .) How in the world do you think Microsoft would be able to sustain a division that loses billions of dollars without dipping into their other divisions' profits? Common sense, Einstein.
There is absolutely nothing in your post about the anti-trust ruling against Microsoft that prohibits them from using the company's overall gross profits to cover the Entertainment and Devices division's enormous overall losses, otherwise that department would have been declared bankrupt long ago. Your claim has aboslutely nothing to do with anti-trust regulations.
Please, do some research before you post threads... this forum is bad enough as it is.

I was playing Third Strike cabs in the arcades like 8 years ago (pre DC NA launch if I remember right.....)
Maybe a little too old to be considered last gen.
You was playing 2nd Impact not 3rd Strike. 3rd is last gen.No, I was playing 3rd Strike sometime back in 99 unless I'm remembering wrong, but I'm pretty sure I'm not.
I remember the DC launch as being late '99, 9/9/99 (easy date to remember) and the PS2 launch being sometime in 2K.
PSN needs to fix the fundamentals in their online before they go for adding the extras.
They need a unified friends lists that allow for inviting buddies to play games/matches easily. Leaving it up to the devs on a game by game basis is nonsense - it never gets done have the time.
They have to make communicating verbally easier, voice messaging and communication should be a breeze, especially in-game.
Sony should have worked those issues out before they announced what amounts to a pack-in version of the SIMS for their online service.
The ease at which one can play and communicate with friends is the backbone of a good online service, Sony still has a ways to go.
[QUOTE="StarFoxCOM"]Wow...No Street Fighter 3: Thrid Stirke? What would you say are the best games all last gen me in no order
RE4 The amazing graphics, The awsome gameplay, it was sweet
FF X So many hours of gameplay could be played. and there were graphics that stunned you in your tracks
GTA Sanandras I think GTA Sanadras defined the limit of free roam for a last gen game.Halo 2 Oh man Halo your first game was a killer app. And then after the launch of x-box live Halo 2 came out and halo 2 offered the best online ever at the time
God of war- It was pure gore in your face. And despite it was a bit of a beat em up it had the best system ever made for it's gener
SSBM- There were hundereds of hours to be found in this fighter. 25 chracters and over a dozen stages. And varying modes like Adventure and Score mode.
KOTOR- Finally a star wars game..... but get this it doesn't SUCK! Kotor set as a jedi RPG that had over 70 hours of gameplay and the abilty to pick light or dark side.
Metriod prime- Everybody was nervous when MP for the game GC was comeing out why you might ask. They were bringing the series to 3-d but nintendo was skilled enough in that area making mario and zelda's first 3-d game be a all time ****c
Farcry Instincs- Stunning graphics, Polar bear like AI, Great mix of stealth and action Farcry Instincs delivered a punch

For me (and lists like this vary depending on my mood or what I feel like playing,) in no particular order:
RE4
Halo 1 and Halo 2 (the second for it multiplayer)
Onimusha (I find Genma to be the far superior version of the original) and Onimusha 3
Ninja Gaiden Black
Metroid Prime
Wind Waker
TP (does that count? it's on the Cube)
Original DMC
God of War.... hopefully soon-to-be God Of War II as well.
Deus Ex (Is that last gen or last, last gen....)
The list goes on, but those are some of my all-time favorites from the previous generation.
Best console of all time?!?
It hasn't been out for nearly long enough to be deemed the "best console of all time," I judge a console's worth by the amount of great games on it. The 360 is off to an excellent start with the likes of games like Gears, but it has a ways to go.
I consider the SNES and the PS2 as the two greatest consoles of all time, but this was only after they had been out for several years and had extensive libraries.
Who knows, the 360 might get there one day.... but it'll take more great games.
