I already left my PS4 impressions in here. Now for my XBOX ONE impressions.
First impressions for the XBOX ONE Day 1 Edition (Have messed around with it for about 24 hours now):
The good - The controller. Feels a lot like the XBOX360 controller, but improved. I'm confused as to why some are complaining about the controller. It has improved in every way and kept the good from the old. The play and charge kits are great too. Nice long cable. The Dashboard is easy to get around and has been very quick/seamless. The ease of using Kinect. I thought this would take some time. It did not. In less than 5 minutes of practice, I was already moving from page to page, app to app with Kinect voice. No problems what so ever. The update took about 5 to 10 minutes to download and update, while the setup took around another 10 minutes, so about 20 minutes overall. Not sure if I just have a fast connection or what, but downloading apps/games for this system is very fast (I believe my best DL is around 15MB, best UL is around 3 to 4MB. These numbers are via Speedtest). The games I have played so far look great and play great. The apps work well. There has been no crash back to the dashboard, ala what I have experienced with the PS4. It keeps you notified of your downloads, achievements you earn, etc. very well. The console itself looks very nice. Black, sleek and overall it feels like it was put together right. Should look great in any entertainment center. Did I mention it is EXTREMELY quiet? No hardware issues so far. You can play games, apps, etc. all while you are downloading content. The SNAP feature is pretty amazing. I have already used it a few times Skyping with family, while I was watching a movie or playing a game.
The bad - You still cannot download multiple things at the same time. Yes you can que them up until the other item is downloaded, but you have to wait. No external HDD support yet. You can't change out your internal HDD either. It has no option to see how much you have on the HDD or maybe I just can't find it. Why did MS put their USB ports on the side and back of the console? Another thing I may be missing, but where is the eject option for hard copy movies and games?
Overall, my first impressions of this console are very good. Much more impressed with this system than with what I have got so far from the PS4 and Wii U. It just seems more futuristic (I guess that is a good word for the XBOX ONE) compared to the PS4 and Wii U. I didn't think it would feel natural to use voice for everything when zipping around the apps and dashboard, but it very much does. Those refusing to use Kinect or buy the XBOX ONE due to Kinect, are missing out on some top level stuff. Again, the ease of using Kinect is just that. Easy. And it works very well. I'm sure I'll find a few more issues with the system as I go along. After all, for the PS4 and the XBOX ONE, this is a growing pains period. So far though, the XBOX ONE has really impressed me out the gate.
