That connection makes no sense. Yes some people are modding it, but its popularity isn't dependant on being modable.
And when you're talking about Canada, there's not point in saying federal crime. All crimes in Canada are federal

I'm sorry, that is not correct. Thereare provincial law as well as municipal laws.
Also, you should google "Pacific Mall", the Xbox modding capital of the world.
Yes, there are provincial and municipal laws, but crime is regulated only by the federal government
Sorry, that is incorrect as well.
IE. Promoting a Mixed Martial Arts event is illegal in Ontario. If you do it, you can be indicted and can go to jail. However, it is perfectly legal in Quebec andBritish Columbia, if yougo through the proper channels

Canadians make modding consoles a federal crime punishable for up to 10 years in prison.
Since the Xbox 360 is so popular in Canada, I wonder how many of those xbox owners should be in prison

The article says its under Section 342.1 of the Canadian Criminal Code.
This is what the Code actually says:
Every one who, fraudulently and without colour of right,
(a) obtains, directly or indirectly, any computer service,(b) by means of an electro-magnetic,acoustic, mechanical or other device, intercepts or causes to be intercepted, directly or indirectly, any function of a computer system,(c) uses or causes to be used, directly or indirectly, a computer system with intent to commit an offence under paragraph (a) or (b) or an offence under section 430 in relation to data or a computer system, or(d) uses, possesses, traffics in or permits another person to have access to a computer password that would enable a person to commit an offence under paragraph (a), (b) or (c)
is guilty of:
(e) an indictable offence and liable to imprisonment for a term not exceedingten years, or(f) an offence punishable on summary conviction.
I think i want an updated Criminal Code delivered to my house.. Because I cannot find a recently updated one.Hobbsey07
It basically says that if you modify a computer system for the purpose of committing an offense under section 430, you have committed an inditable offense which carries that maximum sentence of 10 years in prison if you are convicted. Since Canada now has consecutive sentences, it is possible that you would be sentenced for 10 years for each console you modify.
IE. If you modify 10 consoles, 10x10 = 100 years in prison.
Can you link to the law because there has not been a law coming into force (except the budget) in a while in Canada due to prorogation.DarkStraberry
Yup
Modifying a console and computer Considered an illegal act under section 342.1 of the Criminal Code and is punishable by imprisonment for up to Ten Years," the RCMP said in the statement.
"The RCMP takes this opportunity to promote public awareness of the scourge of counterfeiting. The modification of game consoles and illegal production and sale of counterfeit video games account for losses of several million dollars annually." "The RCMP takes this opportunity To promote public awareness of the scourge of counterfeiting. The modification or game consoles and illegal production and sale of counterfeit video games account for losses or SEVERAL million U.S. dollars Annually."

I bet there are actually 2-3 million copies of FFXIII on Xbox 360... unfortunatly, they have all been acquired via Digital Distribution.
EA rules sports games right now. It's unfortunate that you are experiencing one bug in a huge manager mode, but I don't think it means EA as a whole can't make a proper sports title.Hahadouken
Not all sports though.
Baseball = Sony
Basketball = 2K sports
Soccer = Konami
Mixed Martial Arts = THQ
[QUOTE="Strider_91"][QUOTE="CammieIsWii"]He didn't miss anything.. there is no point to this thread.. Either you're taking a shot at WoW.. or Xbox Live.. And whether you are a Wii player.. or PS3.. Neither are as successful as the two above.. Clearly, the point was he was taking a shot at XBL. Nor does its success nullify the point; why are users obliged to pay when they host the servers?I think you missed the point of the thread. :D

That is an excellent question. It would be like going to a restaurant but being cooking your own dinner while you are there and then being charged for it. :P
Perhaps Strider would like to answer this question
