I'm pretty sure that you HAVE TO install a portion on HDD

I remembered when parents gave me and my brother NES and we played it all christmas night. Also Playstation when I first time got scared playing Resident Evil. Crash Bandicoot blew me away and since I played FFVII I started to like JRPG's. In playstation 2 era the most memorable games were Okami and Rogue Galaxy. 

I've also got fat 40GB model and the same problem. I took it to repair and they said there is nothing they can do about it ( something about GPU gives false statements to CPU about tempereature and that's why it's loud ) using it like that for 2 months. I hope it won't die till PS4 comes out

Wasn't only 60GB version backwards compatible? I have fat 40 GB I don't have any PS2 games but I think they wouldn't work

There has to be a path to this terminals otherwise you cannot activate it. Or maybe color is wrong, sometimes I also wondered why I cannot activate something, but there are some variations on same color
