I still say pick up a 60gb if you can find one. I would not worry about the failure rate. It comes with an Ethernet cable. Just know that the 40GB can not play Playstation2 games. That is why I say get the 60gb one b/c it play almost everyone out there flawlessly. The 80GB plays ps2 games thought software but I have heard that like 80%+ work with that one. You might be able to pick up a 60GB still on Amazon or something. The 40GB come with the spiderman blue-ray movie. 80GB comes with Motorstorm.
Mine puts out some real heat too but I am confident in my PS3 not breaking. Just dont keep in enclosed place and make sure the air vents are clear (Keep away from shag carpets and other long threads that could block the air.
Mine started freezing but it was something different. When I download a video on PSN it freezes up and then if it lets me click on a video file it is wrongly labeled. It has not happened after I backed up my ps3 on my external HDD and I thought i would copy my game saves.....It did not save my ps3 game save for some reason but for ps2 it made the saves. I would think about calling but I really like my EE chip in my ps3 and I dont want them to send me back a 40gb ps3 with no EE. Oh and it is well ventilated
