Let me be honest the PS3 is a failure console compared to the PSX and PS2. Where the he11 are all the games for crying out loud?
Well I was planning on buying a PS3 just for one month to play MGS4 since I love the game series. I wouldn't want to miss out on this one if global warming were to happen tomorrow and we all died because of major flooding.
On a serious note, I looked through the game titles for PS3 and the thing doesn't even have hardly any games at all except Devil May Cry 4, MGS4, and GTA4. As much as I'd love to get the console I am leaning towards Xbox360 instead. Maybe within the coming years despite MGS4 being an exclusive title. Hideo could possibly change his mind, Metal Gear is a multi-platform game in general. Which started out on the Nintendo console when it first was developed. Then later the game came to the PSX console, then the PS2, Gamecube, and even several portable versions of the game like "Acid" and "Twin Snakes" were made. Including a version for XBOX of MGS2 Susbstance, and Metal Gear X.
The same thing can be said for other games that were exclusives but became multi-platform titles. Grand Theft Auto is one of them. As well as Sonic the Hedgehog and even the King Of Fighters series which was strictly just NEO GEO until finally the games were also being made for the PS2 console and now the PS3.
Gaming wars are somewhat non-existent. And I am one of the few people who don't care what console a game is on so long as I can afford that console and be able to play the game on it.For me its not about being dedicated to a system as a fan, its about my ability to play the game on which ever console I can afford it on. Back in the day, people use to have either one console or the other due to system wars between Sega Genesis and Super Nintendo. The consoles even had their own mascots to rival each other "Sonic Vs Super Mario" was always on the front pages of magazines in the 1990s. And every year a new game would rival against another for that one console. Multi platforming was unheard of for certain games. For instance Street Fighter 2 and Mortal Kombat were on both consoles including the Arcade. But games such as Streets Of Rage and Final Fight were exclusives for one console only. Nobody in America could afford a Neo Geo so people only went to Arcades when they wanted to play something different or new. That Sega and Nintendo didn't have.
Neo Geo was like the PS3, except today people are careless with money and will easily go out to buy both a 360 and a PS3. When you total the amount of money spent on the consoles and games. It probably totals out to over $2000 and more especially if you pay over price for it from the stores or even on Ebay. One could only ask what kind of job do most gamers actually have and if they do work, how can they keep up in school to at the same time pay for very expensive games to play every night and day or any time they wanted? Its like a far cry, especially with everything going up every year such as food prices, gas (if you own a car), and even housing is getting steep in most cases. So where is the dough coming from?!!!?!?!?!
With that being said, I believe that the PS3 is nothing like the true gaming consoles. The thing is pricy yet, has little to no games at all. What makes it even worst, is that the PSX is actually more enjoyable than the PS3 due to its huge list of rare games like Final Fantasy IIV, Castlevania Symphony of the Night, Parasite Eve, and etc. The PS3 would do well to revive some of these games as well as learn from the older consoles by developing more titles. That people are going to want to play over and over again without getting bored. Playing video games to the end only to find out there is a lack of replayability makes it less of a fun experience unless the game is just plain fun and addictive like how Shenmu, Fable, and even The Legend Of Zelda Ocarina of Time. I played the he11 out of those games none stop.
Resident Evil 5 and Metal Gear 4 were going to be my only reasons for buying a PS3 regardless of rewards for finishing the games. But I honestly think that Fable 2 convinced me allot more due to it being allot more replayable than any of the games on the PS3 console. Chances are I could spend $400 on the PS3 finish MGS4 and return the whole thing. At least with an Xbox 360 your getting a whole lot more than just one or two titles. The issue I have with this console is that PS3 graphics actually look next generation. While the 360 games still looks so identical to the original XBOX games. Which would explain why the console is so cheap. More games+Fair afforable price for everyone=Sloppy graphics. But this does not harm the gameplay in any way. Since Assassins Creed looks amazing on both systems. Ninja Gaiden II still looks like the first game, and Halo 3 looks exacally like Halo 2. Chances are I won't pay close to little attention to gaming graphics if I really love the game.
Eventually I'll own both consoles, but that'll possibly be when the next next NEXT Generation consoles are made.
