it's worse than we think

"Compare the sales figures for Konami's Dance Dance Revolution Extreme on PlayStation 2 and Katamari Damacy. According to the October NPD numbers, the third installment of the Dance Dance franchise has moved more than 559,000 copies since shipping on September 21, 2004. By comparison, Katamari Damacy, one of the biggest innovation success stories of the last few years, has moved just over 300,000 units since hitting shelves on the same day." -- Bitter Medicine

How can you live alone in a one bedroom apartment and still lose things?

Well my Xbox power cable has gone missing. Don't ask. I don't know. I ended up playing a lot of Katamari this weekend. Man, that King of the Cosmos sure is a bastard, isn't he? I always forget about how catchy the theme song is. But then, all week long, I am reminded when I can't get it out of my head. If you are reading this, are a fan of music, and haven't seen DiG!, do so immediately. I saw it Saturday for the first time and was blown away. It follows two bands over seven years and, despite the obvious bias towards one of the bands, provides an amazing look into the life of someone who is truly a tortured genius. By that I mean someone who makes fairly good music and is wicked insane. The tortured genius in question causes his entire band to break out into a fistfight -- with one another -- in the middle of a set while playing at the Viper Room in LA. A minor example. Watch it. So great.

I worked at GAME and all I got was this lousy t-shirt

After spending 18 hours over 3 days volunteering in the Sports zone, my GAME experience has come to an end. Absolute highlight of the show, without a doubt, was Jeff Gerstmann destroying a Guitar Hero controller Pete Townshend-style. Xbox 360 on a normal tv without any fancy shmancy HD technology looks just like a normal Xbox. NHL 2k6 is really fun. I like the EA one, too, but 2k6 has the goalie mode and the mode that lets you pull off intricate pass plays with ease. Baseball games suck. Amped 3 is good and certainly better than SSX On Tour. SSX doesn't feel as fluid as Amped, and a lot of the courses feel kind of closed in or tunnel-like. Restrictive. People love Blitz, Madden, and Tiger Woods. Do all golf games control the same? I don't think they do. The only video game I've ever seen my dad play was Microsoft Golf on his computer, many years ago. I can still remember the way the narrator said "It's in the sand" and "nice par." The funny thing is, he's not even all that into golf. He plays sometimes, usually on business trips. A handful of times a year. Maybe I should buy him a Golf computer game for Christmas. Maybe that's an amazing idea. Right, so where was I? Oh, GAME. The most fun part was seeing people from the office. It was nice to talk to Gamespot editors like Brian and Justin who I didn't really know prior to the event, and fun to watch Carrie destroy Justin in Blitz. I have a newfound appreciation for sports games, kinda, too. And I think that's it.
