I keep wondering why this patriotic crap keeps showing up on system wars. games aren't about nationality its about taste in games the 360 has yet to do that in a meaningful way in japan. Ms just doesn't understand the japanese market and being the newcoming its hard to get the japanese to change overninght especiually when they know the nintendo and sony brands and have a history with those. yeah MS are trying but japan is not buying the 360 not because its american but because the profile and opinion of the brand just isn't out there. yes the 360 ios getting more games to suit their tases but the marketing is horrible and the games are mostly new ips that just don't have the name recognition of the FFs, Dragon quests, mario, etc..
At this rate io will take a long time to get the brand established unless they can get a big selling japanese series exclusive on their platform then they might start to take notice but as of right now people know of the xbox brand but don't really know it. Japanese are notoriously tight budgeters they will not just take a chance on a system they aren't sure of but may be curious about it. essentially the know the other brands and are willing to spend their money on it whereas the xbox brand is ? that many just won't takew the chance to buy when they don't recognize most of the games.
the fact is japanese gamers have different tastes than us. Simple as that xbox didn't cater to theior taset was ugly and backed by a compnay not many people trust. the 360 is doing a better job at catering to the audience but it is hard to overcome the stigma the first system left not to mention right now the japanes are all over the ds and wii.
It has nothing to do with the system being american and more to do with public perception of the brand. it may change but its going to take time especially when you consider MS is not the best at marketing to the japanese public.

They're not gameplay shots right? Imo, platformers are all about gameplay which is heavily determined by the control you have over the character. Too bad every RaC game has had better gameplay then the marios. Do people even buy R&C games? I can't fathom it. So generic And mario games arnt? Lmao, have you played any mario game? There the most overrated platformer ever. How Mario overshadow megaman in NES/SNES days blows my mind, as well as how Mario 64 overshadowed Conker and Banjoo. And how is it generic? some people are just dense I mean he is no worse than someone saying luigis mansion is better than all ps2 and ps3 games. I mean I'm a huge ps supporter but I started gaming with mario. I mean mario, zelda, and metriod are all amzing series that I love playing. That being said luigis mansion certainly doesn't even come close to represent the best nintendo has to offer and is bested by alot of games on ps2. anybody who has seriously played the ps2 at all will know this to be true.

Ownage approved. Just like Mario Sunshine? Luigis Mansion? how is Luigi's Mansion a platformer? Its not, but it was still an awesome game that in my opinion kills everything the PS2 or 3 has to offer.
wow....please tell me you are joking or that your work for nintendo. the entire ratchet series not to mention the jak series craps all over the GC tech demo that was lkuigis mansion. it was a luanch game for christ's sake if you really feel that way you have never even played the ps2 or ps3. I'm not joking. Luigi's Mansion was an excellent game, although very short. I have played a PS2 AND PS3 extensivly(sorry for spelling) over at my friends house, the only games that appeal to me are Guitar Hero (which is coming over to the Wii) and Kingdom hearts (Which is rumored that its comeing to the Wii). PS I don't work for Nintendo.
have you played the rcatchet and clank games or the jak games? I just can't see how you think luigis mansion is better I mean opinion is opinion but to me its seems more like fanboyism. If you have played ps2 have you played katamari certainly that game should appeal to you its all about simple fun.
as a playstation fan I have to say the ps3 is bigger than the 360. just go to your local games store if they have both displayed its quite easy to see.

Generic really.....what other platformers are like the ratchet and clank series? seriously people need to sit down and play these games not just for a few minutews but make all the way through the game they will see how great, original, and funny these games are. I do admit the ratchet character and look of the characters are kinda generic for platforming games but the games themselves are not. C'mon people.... Ratchet and Clank has some of the worst character designs in gaming history. It's not just MY opinion. It's a commonly held belief. It's written in stone.
Did you read my post I admitted the characters looked kinda generic but they are done that way to emphasis the humour I mean the characters play on their stereotypes and stuff in the game. Its actually appealing to see little ratchet the nerdy robot alwasy calulating and being the voice of reason while ratchet is the totally wacky charcter he is supposed to be. The series' humour is definatly one of its good aspects. I mean captain quark the cheesy over the top superhero who is actually just a wannabe actor who would do anything to get ahead and would sell out anyone to do so.
Character design aside the games are really quite unique. Play them if your a fan of platformers you will like them. trust me.

I dunno why some people are acting tha one game will be better than the other there is the possibility that both will offer great gameplay with totally different takes on genre. ratchet has always been about using your gadgets and weapons to explore and blow stuff up while mario is more pure platforming using marios skillset with a few minor upgrades here and there throughout the game. ratchewt is more action oriented and mario is more expolring while both will have its share of both action and platforming.
they are 2 opposite ends of the platforming genre and I think both will be better than banjo threeie which is a series that never even made an appearence last gen. We can only go by the n64 which were great but rare is not the same developer they were under nintendo. The stamper brothers have left and they do not have any people at MS to give them guidance like nintendo used to. Will still probably be the best platformer on 360 but as of right now ratchet and mario look like they have the edge and I honestly can't tell which will be better.
As for what looks better its obvious that technically ratchet is better but mario still looks really good especially with the garbage that has been flooding the wii since launch. As great an idea as the wii-mote is devs have to realize for a game to be great it has to be a total package gameplay sound and graphics. the wii really needs to show what its got and devs need to stop relying on the "innovative" controller and focus on making a good total package, doersn't have to look as good as 360 and ps3 games but they should still look better than last gen games.
