I don't think the author is suggesting that the greeting "hello" is inherently aggressive or that men should never say "hello" to a woman. I think what she's saying is that although "hello" is usually perceived as an innocent greeting, it can be just as harassing (through tone, body language, whatever) as, say, a wolf whistle. This puts women in an awkward position because there is an obligation to say hello back (don't want to seem rude), even though the intent might be less than friendly.

God forbid anyone have to say hello back. Just another excuse to be anti-social.

I agree that it's polite to respond to a friendly hello from a stranger. But it's not impolite to ignore verbal harassment - and yes, saying hello (with the right tone and attitude) can be verbal harassment.

(Metal Gear Solid spoilers within)
Maybe there are no "good guys" or "bad guys." Even when two or more sides are in opposition to each other, that doesn't mean there are certain parties that are "bad" and others that are "good." They just each have their own conflicting motivations. Ocelot is a good example of this: Ocelot enjoys torturing people - he must be evil. But he's working in opposition to the Patriots, a corrupt organization that seeks to limit the freedoms of people - so he must be good? Of course, it's debatable whether or not the Patriots are "good" or "evil." That's what I like about the Metal Gear Solid series - it's more complicated than just black and white heroes and villains.

Being agnostic has nothing to do with whether or not you believe in evolution. I am an agnostic theist and I know as a scientific fact that humans are directly related to apes.

Anonymous_2

I meant agnostic about the particular question of human evolution. Agnostic is not primarily a word to be used only for religious belief.

In that case I'm not agnostic about evolution at all, since it's logical. Most people accept that traits are passed on from parent to child. If those traits increase the likelihood of surviving long enough to have children, then those particular traits will be passed on more and become more prevalent. Over time the species will change as a result. It seems pretty believable that humans and apes could have evolved from the same species this way; we are pretty similar, after all.

I'm agnostic but I am satisfied with the Darwinian explanation. And I think it's believed that humans and apes have a common ancestor, not that we are direct descendants of them.

I didn't think that much of it. The combat system didn't make much sense to me and it's mostly moving people around and they auto attack. Woo.

Demon's Souls completely owns it as "the" PS3 rpg.

The fun comes from deciding what troop type to place where depending on the battle and the situation, possible enemy reaction, which weapons to upgrade/use, etc., rather than from the actual aiming and firing of the weapons.

He lived with her for two years and couldn't tell that she had once been a man? I didn't know that sex-change surgery was that effective. That's pretty impressive.

Edit: And if the surgery is that good, it doesn't seem that bad to me if she didn't tell him. What's the point of getting surgery to live as a woman if you have to tell everyone that used to be a man? Nobody would want to date you and you wouldn't be treated like a woman (which was the whole point of changing your exterior). I don't think her not telling him warrants getting killed or even hurt at all.

If we can improve computer generated graphics to the point they look just like real life, I think it probably will become the standard. I think I would be alright with this. Our understanding of the world around us all comes from intrepreted perceptions of light and vibrations anyway; if a computer can mimic these patterns of light and vibrations then it isn't that much different from seeing real life images (at least to our brains) in my opinion. And that's good enough for the sake of entertainment or getting a message across, which I think is the point of movies anyway.

Of course, there would probably still be some die-hard filmmakers who keep doing live-action like authors who still use typewriters.

It does seem kind of funny that humans have made it the standard to get rid of our bodily wastes inside our nice clean houses instead of outdoors. It might be feasible to allow people to urinate outdoors if there weren't so many people, and we hadn't built tons of roads/buildings outside that we also want to keep clean. I'm sure that if there was one dog for every human in cities/residential areas all wandering around, people would be required to control their dog's urination behavior.

"Don't let others program your mind, go to our website right away!"

How ironic.
