Nintendo Power VS. gameinformer

Nintendo Power

In my opinion, these are the two biggest videogame magazines. And though they share some similarities, they ultimately appeal to 2 different types of gamers.

KH 358/2 Days Cover

I subscribe to gameinformer, yet I like Nintendo Power much, much better.

The reason? I basically only play Nintendo games. Nintendo Power is written for gamers who invest mostly in Nintendo, because the magazine only covers Nintendo's products. I've played all the systems and even owned a few PSPs, but in the end I'm only a loyal fan to Nintendo. Heck, all I own is a Wii and a DSi, I don't even play my computer games!

But that's not the only reason why I adore Nintendo Power and simply tolerate gameinformer. NP has a much cleaner layout, in my opinion, and is slightly better in quality when the two magazines are being compared.

Epic Mickey cover (1 of the few Nintendo-inspired gameinformer covers)

I also find that reviews and the scores given to games in Nintendo Power are usually more accurate, or in other words after playing the games I usually agree with the scores given in NP more so than the scores given in gameinformer.

And another thing: gameinformer nearly ignores the DS, usually shoving it clear in the back, sometimes without any game reviews, and without a good amount of articles geared towards the system.

But I don't mean to bash on gameinformer. While NP only has to deal with Nintendo products, gameinformer has a much larger task of covering data on ALL videogame systems/consoles.

Nintendo The Official Magazine (outside the USA)

I also like The Official Nintendo Magazine, and wish it came out in the US.

In the end it all boils down to this: If you like Nintendo, invest in Nintendo products, and mostly only play Wii and DS, then Nintendo Power is extremely usefull and very much worth the money.

If you play ANYTHING else, say Xbox360 or PS3 or even PC, then gameinformer, for the most part, is written with gamers like you in mind.

What are your opinions?

Movies that make me cry (some might shock you!)

Okay, I'm going to admit that I'm a cry baby when it comes to movies. I let myself become so involved in the movie, so attached to the characters, that I often find myself crying, sometimes even sobbing, and I can't help myself. So here are some of the films that made my eyes wet and my tears roll...hopefully I'll have some dignity left after this!

DSi XL

DSi XL white

I want one. And this will probably make some people angry.

I've done alot of research, (which there isn't THAT much info about the XL out there) and I've read alot of people's opinions and thoughts towards Nintendo's new DSi and I'm a little shocked to see how many people are angry with Nintendo.

I don't know what the big deal is! If you don't want one then just don't buy one!

As for me I actually DO want a DSi XL. I like the idea of bigger screens and I think Mario Kart DS will be a blast to play on the larger screens.

I just hope I can copy my DSiWare games onto the XL with an SD card....wow that's alot of letters hahaha. Why couldn't they simply call it DSi 2?

And I don't think I'll use the XL stylus, it looks kinda ugly but maybe I will anyways.

The only thing I don't like is the change made to the outside of the system. It has that same shiny plastic as the DS lite had, and I really hate that because I am anal about finger prints, I always have to wipe off my screens and stuff, it just gets under my skin. So I'll just get a white DSi XL, that way you can't see finger prints that easily. I have a white DSi but you can't see fingerprints on the DSi.

Oh and I guess the DSi-ctionary will be useful when I need to know what that word means when I'm playing my DS hahaha.

And lets not forget Ninokuni The Another World, (whenever its released), that will play much better on bigger screens.

Miyazaki's First Video Game, Ninokuni

This is pretty much how big it'll be on the DSi XL :P

What are your thoughts towards the DSi XL? Lol maybe I should brace myself...

AVATAR, the best of 2009 and just as good as Titanic

I decided to see the midnight showing of AVATAR, and it was in 3D too. I am speechless and I am having a hard time putting my thoughts into words. I can't even grasp it all.

Calling AVATAR spectacular is an understatement. All I can say is you must witness it for yourself. And make sure its in 3D. I've seen films in 3D but nothing like this. Pandora's lush and exotic scope is made all the more enchanting in a 3D environment.

And lets not forget how life-like they look. See for yourself in the photo.

Ugh I'm pulling my hair out! I can't wait to see it again! I can't even sleep :P

16th: Megan Fox

Hello. If you're reading this you probably saw the words Megan Fox and instantly felt the urge to move further, thus clicking on my link and reading my blog post. I wonder why? Do you find her attractive?

I don't. But that's because I don't like girls much.

But that's not why I chose to title this blog post after her. What I really wanted to talk about was my feelings towards her and ever other glorified movie star.

I feel bad for poor Megan. I think she's put herself in a rather sticky situation, because now everytime she shows up on the screen she has expectations. She is simply eye candy, for those who like that sort of sweet treat, and I feel bad for her because of it. Whenever she comes out in another role people will expect to see her scantily dressed or acting all sexy and crap, which is wrong. I want to see her play a decent role where she acts like a regular human being. She was okay in Jennifer's Body, but still even then was a (no offense) slutty hot demon who killed through sexual acts among other things.

Everytime I see her do this I cry inside for her. I believe she is ruining her career, even though she is probably making a crap load of money.

Come on Megan! You're better than this! Stop playing around and start to build a steady foundation for yourself! What happens if you get older and lose some of those looks? Then no one will want you, if all you've done is made yourself available for eye candy roles.

Instead, why not try to show the world how well you can ACT? That is...if you CAN act. I wouldn't know because I haven't seen it yet.

Another one: Twilight girl. Why don't you take acting lessons? Then you and your vampire hunk can star in a much deeper role.

I take that back, edward did pretty good in Little Ashes, proving that he can ACT and move away from the eye candy stuff.

I guess what I'm trying to say is I would be a bigger fan of Megan Fox if she played a part with more meaning and less glamor. Then I'd be a fan, because her sexy stuff ain't doin it for me.

I hope I haven't made anyone mad, seeing as there are thousands of guys who probably think I'm insane for dissing on Megan. I didn't mean to offend, I'm just sad for her and hope she can pull herself out of the rut she's in.

Because you can still be pretty and act, Uma Thurman proves that, and is one of my favorites. But maybe that's because she's makes one heck of a kick a$$ ninja killer

#15: What game do you think would make a good movie?

I've been thinking about this just for fun, because I usually day dream alot. But before I talk about which games I think would make good movies, lets first establish that not all movies based on games have been good. I think we can all agree on that.

But with Prince of Persia :TSOT coming soon (and it looks extremely promising, especially since its from Pirates producer Jerry B. and I actually liked those movies), (oh and lets not forget it has Jake Gyllenhaal in it, which automatically makes it a must-see for me) I think videogame movies are going to become much better.

So anyways I think a Valkyrie Profile movie would be pretty darned awesome! Maybe Peter Jackson should make it, since I loved Lord of the Rings and King Kong, and I think his movies are so epic and glorified, which is what a VP movie would need to be like. Hmmm, who should play Lenneth...how about Uma Thurman! Yeah, she could have two swords in hand and totally wipe out an army of hell demons! :D

Hahaha just kidding, Uma isn't a good Lenneth :P. But I can't wait for Kill Bill Vol. 3, which I heard was in the works.

Oooh, how about Bryce Dallas Howard for Lenneth? She could dye her hair gray and among other makeup effects I think she would be a cool valkyrie. I still want to see her in a bigger role, even though I loved her in The Village and Lady in the Water.

Another game that would make a good movie is Skies of Arcadia. I would wet myself if I found out they were making that. It would be so cool!

In all honesty I'm not so sure a Zelda movie would work. People would have too high expectations for it, and if it failed then it might hurt the franchise. On the other hand, it would be wicked cool to see a real-live Link doing some massive damage to save the Kingdom of Hyrule. Hmmm, who should play Link? I know! Jake Gyllenhaal! :P And Uma can be Zelda, that would be nice.

So what do you think?

Dead Space

#3: Dead Space

(raw, loud, and disturbingly frightening music, one of the top 3 videogame soundtracks of all time)

Skies of Arcadia

#2: Skies of Arcadia

(years ahead of it's time, a gorgeous musical adventure with memorable themes and some of the best cues ever created for any form of entertainment)

Super Mario Galaxy

#1: Super Mario Galaxy

An elite musical journey, clearly the game's greatest aspect. Each theme is superb in structure and diversity, breathing life into the world of Mario and his galaxy. The main theme is excellent, if not the best theme ever composed for a video game, and is fleshed out nicely over the entire album. Several tracks on the soundtrack beg to be listened to again and again, partly because of the real-life orchestra racing away at your ears, partly because the themes are simply astonishing. Mahito Yokota and Koji Kondo are two very brilliant men. This is without a doubt, hands down the greatest videogame soundtrack of all time. Expectations are dangerously high for the music of Super Mario Galaxy 2, which, if produced right, might just be better than this one.

Did your favorite make the cut? Did I totally get it wrong? Have you even heard the music to Super Mario Galaxy?! Whatever the case enjoy those game soundtracks and happy listening.

13th: I Feel Like Crying

dear anybody,

I was working on my blog-feature of the Greatest Video Game Soundtracks of All Time today and had roughly spent about 2 hours putting it all together. Just when I was going to post it, my computer froze up and the internet was turned off. I almost threw up...I was so dissapointed.

I STILL am dissapointed. But, one must keep their heads held high if they want to win the fight. So, I will try again, this time saving it all as I go...if you can even do that on a blog...

On top of that my gamestop edge card has been destroyed and they wouldn't help fix it, so its basically useless. And lets not forget that my gameinformer magazines are a hit and miss subject, especially when they arrive at my house a month late and they're all bent and tattered.

I could go on and on about other stuff that's happening in my life.

...life. Isn't it interesting

12th: Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles: The Crystal Bearers

dear gamespot blog thing,

...and anyone else listening...

This is the 2nd time I've written my 12th blog post. My computer erased the first one, so I am going to say this all over again, only it will be the first time you've heard it...

Anyways, I posted some pictures of the upcoming Wii game FFCC: The Crystal Bearers. This game looks epicly awesome, I can't wait to play it. And I am excited for the soundtrack, which comes out on the 9th I think.

I am also excited for Ninokuni: The Another World (even though its not going to be here for a while), the new DSi LL or XL or whatever, and Super Mario Galaxy 2, oh and the new Ace Attorney game starring Miles Edgeworth.

And lets not forget Avatar, which is quickly approaching theaters everywhere. That looks very promising too.

Speaking of movies, I saw Ninja Assassin, which, for the most part, was a pretty neat ninja movie. I still liked Kill Bill better, but hey, this one takes 2nd place. It was very graphic though, which is not my cup of tea. But the fights were very stylized and gorgeously choreographed, and the main ninja dude was very badass. The story wasn't anything special, but the fights made up for it. However I laughed at the end, because of the grandpa's face. It was corny.

I'm playing Kingdom Hearts on the DS and I absolutely love it! I will review it when I'm finished. Plus I really like Valkyrie Profile: Covenant of the Plume. The story is dark and I love how you can choose your ally's fates. Very neat game, I'll review that too once I finish it.

Plus, as the year comes to an end I think I'll do a small blog-feature called The Best Video Game Soundtracks of 2009 and of All Time, since I am a fan of soundtracks. Did you know that I only listen to soundtracks?

See you soon,
