GO GO GO!
I know this is kind of an awkward question...I bet my criteria on who my favorites are by who is...
A.) still actively making music
B.) I feel has the capabilities of putting a classic out today
C.) Has dropped at least one, if not multiple classic LP/EP/mixtapes.
1. Deerhunter
Credentials: Microcastle is probably my favorite album of the last ten years. They've released a lot of near classic EPs and LPs with Cryptograms, Rainwater Exchange Cassette & Weird Era Cont'd. Releasing an album this Tuesday as well.
Songs: "Nothing Ever Happened"
2. My Bloody Valentine
Credentials: Three bona fide classics, including this years MBV. One of the most, if not the most influential band of the last 25 years.
Songs: "Only Shallow"
3. Grimes
Credentials: Dropped a classic last year in "Visions,"...has a nice backlog of LPs and is one of indie musics rising stars. Currently holds the torch for dream pop music
Songs: "Oblivion"
4. D'Angelo
Credentials: Two classics. Despite a 13 year hiatus is supposedly putting the finishing touches on his third LP.
Songs: "Lady"
5. Danny Brown
Credentials: XXX dropped in 2011. EPs with Black Milk and guest apperances out the arse in the last two years. New album "Old" dropping this year
Songs: "Outer Space"
6. Animal Collective
Credentials: Has 2-3 classics under their belt. "Strawberry Jam," still one of the most underrated LPs of the last ten years. Always capable of dropping a neo-psychedelic masterpiece.
Songs: "Fireworks"
7. Crystal Castles
Credentials: Second LP was a classic. Other LPs are great. With a change in direction that let's Alice Glass be Alice Glass to some extent I could see another classic under their belt.
Songs: "Crimewave"
8. Wild Nothing
Credentials: Yet to drop a classic LP, but has a classic EP in Golden Haze under his belt. Needs to work on consistency, but has improved with every release both musically & with songwriting.
Songs: "Dissapear Always"
9. Fiona Apple
Credentials: Has 2 classics under her belt with last years "The Idler Wheel..." and 1999's "When The Pawn..." Probably not making another album for 6 or 7 years, but I'll certainly be looking forward to it.
Songs: "To Your Love"
10. Waka Flocka Flame
Credentials: Has flirted with making a classic for some time now with mixtapes and LPs. One of the most consistent rappers in the game
Songs: "Karma"
11. The Weeknd
Credentials: Had a big 2011 with three of the best records the year saw. including one classic mixtape in "Thursday." Looking forward to what's in store next.
Songs: "XO"
12. TV On The Radio
Credentials: One of the most consistent bands in indie music...has near-classics/classics in Return To Cookie Mountain & Dear Science.
Songs: "Wolf Like Me"
13. Fleet Foxes
Credentials: Folk's top band & media darlings. Has classics/near classics with the Sun Giant EP, their s/t LP & follow up Helplessness Blues
Songs: "Tiger Mountain Peasant Song"
