@robbiejones Agreed there. The enemy design, and even the level design to a large extent, just weren't as fascinating; and as far as the enemies go, it even become boring and ridiculously silly. Fighting through all the Syan guards in the Undead Crypt right before Velstadt is a prime example of the developers throwing endless hordes at you that just serve a tedious time it takes to get to Velstadt. No other purpose than that, unfortunately.
I have to agree with the others who talk about expecting to be coddled in a Souls game is just silly. That's a very good reason you've never played any of them, and likely won't be back--which I'm happy for. No offense, but it really isn't the game for you. That's not meant to sound elitist, just the truth. You talk about it being "tedious" and trying to call it a challenge, but I disagree with that as well. The challenges are there, and learning from death and growing as a character is there if you let it.
The story and lore of DSII, although not as grand as DS or Demon's Souls before it, is rich and beautiful; it just doesn't hand-feed you the story. You have to discover it for yourself and STILL there are plenty of elements to the story that are subjective.
I'm one of the gamers who didn't enjoy DSII as much as DS or Demon's Souls, not because of challenging--or "tedious" as you call it--gameplay or "lack thereof" story but the introduction of Soul Memory which I still think is absolutely stupid outside of NG. I get it for NG, but once players advance to NG+ I just don't get the purpose of SM at all.
But I digress. I didn't enjoy this game as much but I still loved it, and I still continue to love it. I'm glad you didn't like it and hope you won't be back because you don't deserve it. I'm sorry if that makes me sound like a jerk or an elitist prick, but it's the truth. You don't deserve to enjoy it, sorry.
@katerinafm With the equipment and build you have in NG+ shouldn't surprise you too much for the DLC. You should know your character well enough to withstand anything it offers with a little planning and endurance. Good luck!
I grew up playing CS, remember playing 1.6 late in the office with my co-workers. But couldn't get into GO a whole lot, still go back to playing Source when my and my brothers are needing a good game to dive into for a night.
