I share your frustration, brother.

Unlike you, though, I think FF X was crap (at least compared to the predecessors)

He's the one everyone remembers, he's a FF villain, and he's propably the most popular figure in the FF universe. But he is not the most evil - Ultimecia is. End of story.

Not a problem for me, since I hate the Kingdom Hearts series.

Square-Enix is the tip of the iceberg when it comes to RPG's, so I don't think they have that much competition. However, I agree that technology has opened up for a lot of new stuff. In that way, many of the old Final Fantasy virtues have been neglected.

Good question.

Ultimecia, because you don't know how she looks until quite late in the game. It's the same thing that makes the Phantom in "Phantom of the Opera" creepy - you don't see his face. I remember i was shaking in my pants the first time I crawled up Ultimecia's tower. I had only seen glimpses of her in the game, so it was scary to finally stand face to face with this world class villain.

It has not happened for me with any FF games on the first play-through. For me, FF VII and VIII have a high replay value, and I usually beat each game once a year. FF X, however, hasn't really been interesting for me since the first play-through. I always get 2-3 hours into the game, and then I stop. It gets boring pretty fast.

We know it's more popular than its predecessor FF XII...

Ultimecia, of course.
