That's true but more often then not MS is the highest bidder it seems. Considering the amount of money they have and the amount they are spending to try to make the 360 a success this isn't surprising. They are also an American company with lesser morals then the Japanese ones who might not have even known how much they could influence sites with their advertisement dollars. Even the ones that did know are probably surprised it would give them enough influence to get someone who has been working here 10 years fired because he offended a sponsor.
