1. Who told you Vista was a gaming OS?

2. Screw DX10? Whatever man, but you will regret it.

[/QUOTE

Regret it? lol you think i care about flashy graphics and realistic water?

ChevelleFan

You will care when most of the PC games go DX10 exclusive. Do youthink Microsoft wont push their OS more than they have already? Stop being ignorant. I honestly don't care what your choice is I was just giving an opinion are your Vista hate rant seeing as no one else wanted to reply to your crap.

Regret it? Dx10 only games is a ways out. By that time Vista will be cheaper and as stable as XP is now and the new OS and DX11 will be around the corner. So what is he going to regret?

Honestly I don't know what everyone's beef is about dell. Those customer service problems are things of the past. Dell although obviously should not be the first choice for a gaming PC is still a pretty good deal for a standard home PC that does a little bit of gaming. Sure it is more expensive then building, but way better then that ibuypower and cyberpower crap.Dell is the biggest name brand of personal computers for a reason and that is quality and service. My father won't buy anything but a Dell for good reason. Any HP he has owned has crapped out on him or has had problems with the hardware. Anyway most of you guys don't even include a monitor or speakers which can easily add 200-300 dollars to the price of building from scratch not to mention the little things that are not listed. I am in no way advocating Dell, but I honestly think that most of this Dell hate is unfounded. Think about the prices for one moment, you are paying for labor for building the pc, optimizing, and other things like a warranty on the entire PC which is not available if you build. Do whatever you want, but your dad is not crazy for believing that Dells are good quality machines. ChevelleFan

WTF are you talking about? A Dell warranty is going to cost another $200. That could be used for the monitor in which you speak of. And anyway who wants to wait 2-4 weeks for Dell to "Fix" or replace your computer, when you can do ityouself on the same day. PC's dont need "fixing" Just replacement or upgrade of hardware or software installation. Theres nothing to FIX on a PC.

I cant tell you how great Bio Shock sounds with my onboard sound. 5.1 and subwoofer ROCKS. Why anyone would spend $100$200 on a Sound card is just beyond my imagination. My friend has XFi and I can't tell the difference AT ALL. Spend your hard earned $$$ on a new video card or more RAM you wont regret it!

If you havent formatted or reinstalled it Could be your drive took a *Dump*. Insert a movie or game disk or something and click on -my computer to see if the drive detects your disk. Also check your ide/ata cable to see if it is loose or disconnected. Chances are it has nothing to do with your drivers your drive just took a sh**. Theres some nice Sony DVD-Rs for cheap on newegg.com for $30-$50.

Okay, here's what I'm tentatively looking at buying. The reason I am looking at something mainstream is because I want a really good service plan in case anything happens to it. I've been keeping up my own PCfor the past 4-5 years, which I originally bought as a gaming PCmaxed out, but now it's basically completely shot and I'm tired of things dying in it and not being able to fix them. So I figure a mainstream company's going to have better customer service than those more obscure custom PC sites. Secondly, my needs have changed and I know I won't be gaming a whole lot. I'll mostly be downloading stuff, burning DVDs, and doing basic tasks. I'd like to use Avid to do some video editing as well.

So what I'd like to know is if this PC will be able to run the current hot titles and those coming out in the near future at max or close to it? I am not willing to dish out the money to buy a serious gaming machine, but I'd really like to play BioShock and some other cool looking games that have come out since my PC died. Additionally, does this look like a good PC in general? The price will be about $1150.00 total, but that includes the 3 year parts, labor, and on-site warranty as well, which is around $250.00. Thanks a lot, I hope to get some good feedback!

Dell Inspiron 530:
Intel® CoreTM2 Duo Processor E6550 (4MB L2 Cache,2.33GHz,1333 FSB)
Operating System:
Genuine Windows Vista® Home Premium
Memory:
2GB Dual Channel DDR2 SDRAM at 667MHz- 2DIMMs
Hard Drive:
500GB Serial ATA Hard Drive (7200RPM) w/DataBurst CacheTM
Video Card:
256MB NVIDIA GeForce 8600GT-DDR3

plus dual-layer dvd burner, etc.

Dude Ok your going to pay another 250$ for a warranty(service plan) why?? What is there that you can't 'fix' on a pc?The PC you listed can be built for $700 on you own. For $1150.00 you can get 6750 or AMD x2 6400+, better RAM 800mhz, Windows Vista Professional $115.00 and an 8800gt or GTX off of Newegg(no sales tax) The 500gb drive you listed can be bought for less than $100.

You don't "fix" anything on a PC anyway. You replace or upgrade. If your MB or Pwrsupply goes out then you just remove and return it replace it and get a new one. Don't throw money away to Dell when you don't have to.

Why do gamers constently blame developers? Did you guys ever stop and think what *really* dictates the market? Yup...it's you! This is capitalism, and the CONSUMERS drive the market, and therefore control what type of products are released.

Since the games that sell well (meaning the games that consumers buy the most of) generally have top notch graphics, that of corse is what the big developers will concentrate most on.

Don't like it? Stop buying games with good graphics (doubtful)...

Reality of the situation is of course, despite all this complaining about the graphics trends, we are all responsible for it. Also, there is a HUGE indie movement with TONS of great games (albiet "crappy" or "last gen" graphics) out there everyone seems to ignore. If you guys were really serious about this, why not support them? Yup, you *want* those cutting edge graphics as bad as everyone else. That's why you bought a kick arse system isn't it?
