News Flash for both of you:  you DON'T have to use these features to play the game.

WOW, that opened ur eyes didn't it?

Here's the response to ur points:

- see what your friends are playing?  Doesn't Steam do this already?  What's wrong with seeing what ur friends are doing?

- check stats from the day before?
WoW has an armory, so what's the problem with BF having one too?  You can show ur friends or people at work how u configured ur class/loadout, discuss different loadouts etc. Is it wrong to chat with people about gaming outside of gaming now is it?

- configure a loadout on your phone?
Why not?  Maybe you have an hour's trip on ur way home on the train so you make the most of it by playing Commander Mode on the tablet or just preparing a new loadout so when u get home u use the most of ur limited gametime to actually play the game.

- get texts when someone gets more tank kills than you?
Better feature is get a message when ur clan is organizing a game night.  You can chat with them and organize it through chat.  No different than calling a friend and saying "Hey, want to play games tonight".  People already do it through Steam too.

See, u both are over-reacting.  These features are just convenient things for people that use them.  Others won't and will just play the game.  I can't believe u two are complaining that a company is providing these features to their games.  FelipeInside

My, my. Aren't we quite full of ourselves today? No shit you don't have to use them. I'm just saying they're more useless than useful. While Steam may have an annoying pop-up that tells you what friends are playing what, why would you actively search for what friends are doing what in Battlelog when you're not even playing? You watched that video you posted, right?

You're comparing WoW to BF? lol. Last time I checked WoW is not a first-person shooter. And I'm pretty sure an armory is a place to store weapons, not look at statistics. But yes!!! You hit the nail on the head! All I want to do at WORK is show people my game stats. My boss would be sure to give me that promotion now!

And for the love of God, please learn to use italics. I understand this is the internet and Caps Lock is all the rage, but come on...

EDIT: Please, for the love of everything video game related, do not compare Steam to Battlelog. That honestly makes me want to question whether or not you're a PC gamer...

Agreed. All this "social integration" is complete bullshit. It's being marketed as innovation, but it's just filler, made to distract people from the complete  lack of innovation  in the actual games.

And felipe, before you even reply, I'm not saying that adding in features like this is inherently bad. Obviously, if you don't want to, you can just choose not to use them, and many people will. What's bad is that all this social crap is being called "innovation", while actual  gameplay innovation  is virtually nonexistent.

the_bi99man

Ding, ding, ding. 'Filler' is the key term. Better yet, gamers wanted the Commander back and DICE is toting it like a brand new feature. Talk about lack of innovation right there...

I disagree on one point, though. This whole tablet and social interaction thing will fall by the wayside. I've never seen it used in gaming before other than CoD's Elite 'service,' but this will not go well for DICE.

Aye, carumba... Nowhere did I mention having to create a Facebook account. For some reason Felipe did not read my post as sarcastic; Battlelog was a poor attempt at fusing gaming with social media. It even had friend suggestions for some moronic reason.

As for that video, I'm not a big enough loser to configure a friggin' BF4 loadout on the bus ride to work. Reminds me of Call of Duty's Elite thing. Why the hell would you do any of that outside the game? Are people that impatient? I know the answer is 'yes' since DICE is clearly catering to the twitchy CoD generation of gamers...

If you're not physically playing the game why would you want to:

- see what your friends are playing?

- check stats from the day before?

- configure a loadout on your phone?

- get texts when someone gets more tank kills than you?

After BF3, DICE surely doesn't have the resources to waste on Battlelog when they have a franchise to get back on track...

KHAndAnime

So a person that wants to check their stats at work, or on the couch watching TV, or chat with friends on their mobile app are losers?

You really think that the features on that video are bad? This is why we can't have nice things and advance. Gaming now is a lot more interactive, a lot more social and a lot more mobile. Get with the times.

I agree with CreepingDeath, all those features are crap. Felipe, your idea of gaming innovation is a farce. Nobody wants games tapping into their Facebook or social media unless those people are named Nerdicus Loserus IV or perhaps a descendent of his. People want convenience, better gameplay, and less bugs. Not more bugs, less convenience, and the opportunity for all your friends to see how little of a life you have. I don't think PC gamers will get all up in arms that their games aren't becoming integrated into social media enough...

Sorry, Felipe. Just because you can do something and label it 'innovative' doesn't mean you should do it. Battlelog was and remains to be terrible; another obstacle to jump through to play the game. 9 times out of 10 I will call you a lazy S.O.B. if you can't take a few seconds to configure your loadout in between deaths in-game. Hell, even the somewhat sensible idea of using your tablet as a minimap is stupid because you have a minimap on your screen. Why would you look away from the computer when it's right in front of you?

Don't get me wrong: I'm a huge nerd that will defend a lot of nerdy/geeky things until my dying breath, but these features are for losers. Worrying about video games stats before, during, or even after work? Really? You have nothing more productive to do than to think about how many more attack chopper kills you need? It's pathetic, a tad disgusting, and a waste of resources. Video game features belong INSIDE the video game.

Also, KHAndAnime, "Nerdicus Loserus IV...or a descendant of his"? LOL. Agreed on all points, though. When's the last time you heard, "Damn it! Why won't Medal Of Honor let me post my kill streak to Twitter!?"

[QUOTE="CreepingDeath93"]Nah, you could judge BF3 based on Battlelog alone if you played on the PC, lol. "Facebook? To play Battlefield? The f*ck is this?"FelipeInside
I never needed Facebook to play BF, just saying...

Yes you did. It was called "Battlelog."

I want everything to do with my game IN my game. No Battlelog, none of this tablet "next gen" bull they're pulling with BF4. Next thing you know DICE will be posting your BF stats on your Twitter and Facebook accounts...

I just don't agree with judging a game based on dedicated servers or not. It's like judging BF3 on Battlelog alone.FelipeInside

Again, to reiterate, Ghosts will be done differently on the PC. I think that's a first instead of it merely being a console port.

If BF4 is anything like BF3 it will be dumbed down for the kiddies. Buy BF2 instead for a good Battlefield game, lol.

I'll have to reread the forum rules, but I didn't know every thread had to be in question form

If you're getting this ansty over it why the hell do you continue to comment? I know I'm new to GameSpot, but that's Forum 101, guys.

Also, I'll have to look up what the hell a 'blog' is.

JigglyWiggly_

you're just talking down to console gamers because of the platform they play on which makes no sense

Where in the hell did you pull that from? I got a laugh out of this guy because of his ignorance, but he even asked for my help and I was more than happy to oblige.

'PC elitists' and 'console fan boys' go at each other with ridiculous statements that other people start buying into. From what I've seen, this guy is one of them. He thinks PC gaming is this super expensive hobby that's extremely difficult to play. It's this whole "Oh, you spend more than $400 on it? Too expensive" and "I have to put it together? Too hard" mentality that drives me nuts. Then the PC turd community comes out of nowhere and starts bad-mouthing consoles for no reason.

< Huge fan of the BF franchise; only ever played CoD with friends (zombies!).

That being said, Ghosts looks like it could be the start of something semi-different for the quite bland CoD series. BF4 looks like a huge step up from BF3 (I mean, what wouldn't be), but it also seems just as dumbed down as BF3.

I think PC gaming is far more expensive than console gaming, from a hardware pespective. For a high end rig, I would spend at least 800 dollars, and it might last a year or so before I'd start having to turn down the graphics. And I hate that. **** medium settings. Max settings or go home. I got the PS3 in late 2007 for 500 bucks or something like that. I've spent probably close to 4k in PC hardware since then. haha

My latest build was definitely over a thousand dollars.

Lost-to-Apathy

See, I think that's where people get their stuff messed up. From my experience, PC gaming is more expensive up front, but completely worth it in the long run if you're smart with upgrades. Console gaming is cheaper initially, but stuff adds up quickly especially now that both consoles require you to pay your internet bill and a subscription fee for online. Two years of Xbox Live is $120. That's a new piece of hardware for your PC ;)

I spent $750 on my current build and I definitely (unknowingly) skimped on the CPU so that needs to be upgraded very soon. Then again, I also saved about $100 with rebates, bundles, and coupons which I rarely see mentioned when people talk about building a PC. Smart shopping ftw!
