You won't lose trophies for not being online, so I don't know what you mean by being backed up. Although you do have to be online to update your profile so that you can see how many trophies you have because Sony still hasn't made it so that once you get the trophy unlocked it automatically updates your profile sadly.It's wise to be online so that your trophies will be backed up. Also, I don't know of any games that support trophies out of the box. You usually have to update them.
