Anyone else unhappy with the PSP
I sure am.. it is taking the handheld approach wrong. The DS doesn't try to be a N64, but the PSP tries to be a PS2. Look at the games, most of them are based on PS2 games, now there is nothing wrong with that. But the games actually try to be PS2 games, and that is where the system fails. ITS A HANDHELD NOT A HOME CONSOLE
Lets just look at the system. Now I don't know if you can actually standby/sleep mode the PSP while playing a game, but if it can than its not as inuitive as the DS. The DS I just close it and walk from the train to the subway. The PSP on the other hand.... Well I don't even take it with me, or shut it down each time.
Not to mention the loading times. Its really annoying when i get into the train start up my PSP and have to stare at a loading screen for up to 30 seconds. The DS you can just fire up and start playing. Close the shell if you have to move, and then continue playing.
The games library for the PSP is abyssmal as well. It consists out of racers mostly, and tons of ports or stale franchises.. Here is a quick check I did on the internet on the number of AAA games
Gamespot
4 AAA titles on the DS
3 AAA titles on the PSP
Comparable huh
And if we look on IGN....
10 AAA on the DS
5 AAA on the PSP
Hmmm....
Gamerankings
4 AAA on the DS
0 AAA on the PSP
Ouch
Really Sony needs to catch up with Nintendo. Games like WTF are a good start, because that really is handheld gaming. I don't want a PS2 game shrinked down, I want something for on the road thats easy to do and to get into.
The PSP is such a nifty piece of hardware, but when it comes to gaming on the road its a failure in my opinion. I take it with me for music playing, and movie playing... 1 gig memory card comes in handy for that. Right now I got the Nintendo Press conference, Sony 1 minute press conference, the MGS trailer, and the SSBB trailer on it.
Yep, thats why the software attachment ratio is so bad, we all use it for different things then games
