[QUOTE="mjarantilla"][QUOTE="MrConvoy"][QUOTE="mjarantilla"] Err, correct me if I'm wrong, but the 60GB has 100% BC, the 80GB has 10% BC, and the 40GB has 0% BC. I'm not following your argument.
MrConvoy
You're way wrong. The 60GB has ~98% backwards comaptibility and the 80GB has ~75% backwards compability (plays all PSone and more than 2/3's PS2's library). The 40GB SKU has 100% PSone backwards compatibility and 0% PlayStation 2 backwards compatibility. That could change however if Sony decides to create an emulator like they did with PSone.
I was talking about only PS2 BC. But anyway, since when did the 80GB have 2/3's of the PS2's library? Last I checked, it was only capable of ~2,500 games out of a library of 16,000? Then again, I haven't really done much research on the "updated" BC list.
When did the 80GB SKU have 2/3's backwards compatibility? When it launched. It has the Graphics Synthesizer still intact while the Emotion Engine was removed thanks to software emulation (which is incomplete). It obviously plays the most popular games in PlayStation 2's library while niche games are most likely unplayable.
Have you even looked at the backwards compatibiliy list provided by Sony themselves? The 60GB and 80GB clearly play PSone and PS2 games.
Too bad I live in Europe and the 60 gig model will be discontinued and the 40 gig doesn't have BC. Thanks again Sony, for trying to force me buy a PS3 while it still has BC. If only it had more good games I might actually.
