Hey everyone:D!
For this week's 'My Song Of The Week' I've chosen to do things a bit differently. Since I'm up to my 10th 'My Song Of The Week', I've chosen to pick an album, instead of a song (Next week it'll be back to a song though.). Surprisingly, the album isn't from Lil Jon & The Eastside Boyz:shock:, but it's still by a rap group. Also, the album isn't a crunk album:shock:, it's something a little bit different. Anyway, the album is by a group of three rappers from Australia, and is their latest album, and it's also their best album to date (In my opinion.). If you haven't guessed already the group is the Hilltop Hoods and the album is State Of The Art.
The album only has 12 songs(Well, it was going to have 13, the 13th being 'Rent Week' with the Funkoars but then it was taken off, I'm not sure why. But now, it's available on the iTunes Store but I'm not sure if it's out on the CD yet.) but each song is well made, and besides having good beats, the songs have got meaning behind their lyrics. The track list for State Of The Art is as follows: 1. The Return, 2. Super Official, 3. Chase That Feeling, 4. She's So Ugly, 5. Still Standing, 6. Classic Example Feat. Pharoahe Monch, 7. Chris Farley, 8. The Light You Burned Feat. Trials, 9. Parade Of The Dead, 10. Last Confession, 11. Hillatoppa and 12. Fifty In Five.
The Hilltop Hoods are famous for such songs as Clown Prince (From their album The Hard Road.), What A Great Night (From their album The Hard Road.), The Hard Road (From their album The Hard Road.), Chase That Feeling (From this album, State Of The Art.), Still Standing (From this album, State Of The Art.), Dumb Enough (From their album The Calling and probably their most famous song, The Nosebleed Section (From their album The Calling.). Anyway, the Hilltop Hoods consist of Suffa(Matt Lambert.), Pressure (Daniel Smith.) and DJ Debris (Barry Francis.), and they're all very talented artists, and this album proves it.
Anyway, moving on to the album. The first song ,The Return, is fantastic, the beats combined with the lyrics (They're mainly about their comeback to the Australian Rap scene, because they've been out working on this album for a while.) make for a fantastic song. Super Official is a fantastic song, but it's not my favorite on this album. Chase That Feeling is probably the most popular song from this album, and it's also one of the Hilltop Hood's most successful. She's So Ugly is a pretty good song, and it's a fair bit more 'in your face' than the rest of the songs but it's still a good song. Still Standing is one of the best songs on this album, it's got a great rhythm and great beats and is definitely a highlight of this album. Classic Example is also one of the best songs on this album, in fact, it's one of the groups best songs, and with the addition of Pharoahe Monch, it's really an exceptional song. Chris Farley is also one of the albums highlights, and the lyrics pretty much go on about people the Hilltop Hoods look up too. The Light You Burned has rock music elements to it, but that's mainly because of the addition of a guitar, and as far as I can tell, the only time the Trials are on it is in the chorus. Parade Of The Dead is my favorite track from this album at the moment, the beats are brilliant and the lyrics are 'interesting'. They pretty much go on about, well, fighting zombies (Now that's something I've never heard on a rap song before:P!) and it's also the only song I've heard that has a really epic version of Heads, Sholders, Knees&Toes on it (Whilst this is going there's this really good instrument (I think it's an instrument.) in the background, and that 'instrument' is also also heard about a minute into the song for about 10 seconds.). Anyway, Last Confession is also a good song, and is a lot more laid back than some of the other songs like 'She's So Ugly', and the highlight of that song is the chorus (It's been done really well and you can hear the effort that's gone into it.). The 11th song is Hillatoppa, which is a good song, but it's not as good as 'Parade Of The Dead' or 'Classic Example'. The last song, Fifty In Five, is more of a serious song, but it's not that good but other people may like it.
Overall, it's a fantastic album and you can hear that a lot of work has gone into it. The Hilltop Hoods have done a fantastic job and that's why I'm rating this album 8.7/10. Happy gaming:D!
