@sheetbike Hi Johnny - I hope you were paying attention to Danny's mouse control. It was great - I didn't throw up at all this time. Great commentary though!
As a long-time gamer, I buy new and second-hand. I will buy new when I'm really excited about a game and don't want to wait, and I buy second-hand when I'm not so sure about a game, or maybe missed it when it came out first. I don't think developers should worry about the second-hand market, but should focus on the quality of their games. If I buy a second-hand game by a certain developer and love it, I am then inclined to look at what they're working on next. If I'm sufficiently excited about it, then I'll buy new.
Unfortunately, much of this vitriol and hatred has probably come from the young set within the gamer community. I have been saddened (sometimes sickened) even by some of the comments occasionally posted on the Gamespot website on regular discussions, and they often have the ring of youth about them (also bad spelling).
@Vlad_an_impaler I agree completely... with the amount of money that is thrown at marketing these days, I tend to ignore 90% of the hype until I can see it for myself, generally through a video review or friend.
@bornej I'm with you on this one buddy... although I don't upgrade as often as you (it's every 3 or 4 years for me). My current system has lasted a good 4 years, and is only now starting to struggle. I have spent the last 3 months checking online forums and reviews, buying Custom PC mags and catching up with all the latest news. I've just had all the components delivered and am in the middle of assembling. It's all part of the fun. Next will be the overclocking and tweaking, and then I can sit back for the next few years and enjoy all the lastest games. While I recognise that console systems have their place, there is NOTHING that can match being a PC gamer when you design and build your own system. IMHO anyway!
