Gaming

This should be a fine week for gaming, Episode 2 and Portal fully preloaded (for now, sure there will be some last minute downloading as well):)

I've been playing FF (Fortress-Forever)almost every night for the last 2 weeks. Getting back in shape and enjoying it as well.

Of course I also checked out TF2.To quote Ford Fairlane, playing TF2 is like ************ with a cheese grater, slightly amusing but mostly painful. A TF game without concs is not the best idea imo.

Still it seems to be more popular than FF for now, probably because it has gotten a lot more hype. It's also very newbie friendly, so I can understand why newcomers prefer it, to begin with.

But if you want to play a more "serious" fortress game, and spend some time on honing your skillZ, then FF is the thing.

If you want to check out FF, I would be more than happy to jumpstart you off in the right direction. There are of course 9 different classes, and a lot to learn for newcomers. My Steam name is D10, feel free to add me to your list and msg me if you need advice.

Remember, it's a FREE mod that runs on Source, you can see a list of download mirrors here.

New version of D10.is

I just launched the new version of D10.is. I've allready tested all the most important aspects of the site, everything seems to be running smoothly.

As today has been an extraordinary hard hangovers day, thorough testing and final changes will have to wait until tomorrow.

Those who know me know that I always welcome any discussion on web design and coding. So for anyone with the slightest interest in these areas, feel free to leave comments, questions, praise or abuse :)

Grand Theft Auto IV delayed to 2008

Full story can be found here on GS.

I wasn't planning on playing it until there was a PC version, but these delays, sometimes repeated delays are becoming more like a rule rather than an exception.

I know games are getting "bigger" in all possible ways, but in the end the waiting time between releases of any series is becoming a showstopper.

We all know the most dramatic stories, things like Duke Nukem Forever and TF2, but in general we often have to wait 3, 4, 5 years or more for a sequel to our beloved games.

It's just to much isn't it?

As I've written countless times before, the episodic approach seems even worse. We get a demo of a game, but these demos or episodes are still years apart.

In the end, it seems to me that this scene needs some able project leaders. Any volunteers? :)

This and that 2

Fishing

I went on a 3 day trip to the north of Iceland, to a small place called Akureyri. These 3 days became 15 days. You see, I went fishing, and since I dislike walking around with pockets full of stuff, I decided to put the car keys in my bait box. This seemed like an excellent idea at the time. When it was time to call it a day and head home, it didn't, as there were no keys in the box anymore.

We searched the river bank thoroughly, we even got our hands on a couple of metal detectors the next day, but we still had no luck finding the keys.

To make a long story short,we had to wait 10 days for new keys. And the cost..... not something to laugh at: $475for new keys + $158 for towing the car back into town.

Fortress-Forever beta testing

The Fortress-Forever team has started accepting applications for public beta testing. I applied a bit late, and I haven't heard from them. They probably have over 1000 applications by now, so I'm not getting my hopes up, but I'm pretty psyched about the upcoming fortress games. I've not found a replacement for TFC yet when it comes to online playing.

Business

August is starting up nicely business wise. Two "orders" for new sites (one is a remake of a site allready using D10), and it's only the first of the month!

I also finally set myself a deadline for the new D10.is site

(here we need to break the line because GS editor removes the space after the link) and deleted the old one. So until next sunday all you can see there is a splash screen of sort.

Since all football tournaments that run on D10 are over for the summer, I'm hoping I can take a few days off soon.

Gaming

I've not been playing much, but when I get the chance I wonder around Chernobyl as a S.T.A.L.K.E.R. I've had great fun with that game so far and if I have anything to say about it we will get a bunch more of such 1ps+rpg hybrids.

However I can barely run it on medium settings with my 1.8 ghz cpu, 1gb ram and GeForce 6800 GT. I plan to build a new system in October/November, it's time to upgrade when medium feels laggy ;). This fall we will see a bunch of exciting games, which is always the reason behind PC upgrades. I'm no exception there. I really haven't upgraded my PC for 3 years. I bought the 6800 GT when HL2 was released, and justified my actions by promising myself I wouldn't buy a new graphics card for 3 to 4 years. And now it is.... almost....3 years since we got HL2. Imagine that. This episodic content sure is working, so far we have had 4 hours of gameplay in 3 years

And what exactly is the deal with the different coloured boxes? Just because you decide to squeeze more games in, games you know most gamers allready have, and don't really want to buy again, that's still no reason to say the game is cancelled!

A friend of mine pasted me this url the other day. I couldonly imaginehis hysteria as he typed something like "WTF ???????? EPISODE 2 HAS BEEN CANCELLED, OMG!!!!!!!!!1111"

He got his groove back when I explained that the game hadn't been cancelled, only the box.

Gamespot Blog Editor Tip

If you click the emoticon Icon, and then panic as the browser window seems to be completely frozen, just relax. According to my experience writing this post, you will only have to wait for around 3 minutes while the emoticons load :)

Cheers GS!

I'm trying to watch a single ******* video from E3 on GS. It constantly stops and I get the option to "replay" it, even if I have barely started.

I was going to commend GS for their new flash video format, now, I've decided not to. As usually GS is a great source for disappointment and frustration.

I can't see how I could justify paying for anything here, I can only see reasons not to.

The good news is, there are community and interests sites opening up everyday, no need to cling to GS. Even greater news is, I know a bundle of sites that will open up soon that will be so much better :)
