Actually it doesn't look good at all if you bother to look at textures. Its an MMO, don't expect it to look good. If this is a launch game on ps4 i will probably try it once more but hated it on pc. Actually it looks amazing on maxed settings, nothing comes close when you consider the scale. Planetside 2 was one of the things I had listed that would help for a great launch, but it does look very unlikely due to costs, time and limitations.[QUOTE="SuperNovaftw"]
Holy Crap that game looks awesome.

Today, Sony will be annoucning the Playstation 4, while this may seem like a straight forward matter, it is anything but. This is not just a console release, this is a potential turning point of the future of Sony and console gaming.
A little about my experience.
I started like you guys, a gamer. I then started playing at higher and higher levels til I was as I would describe, the "semi-pro" scene. next was sales in a video games shop, which rose to supervisor--->manager---> to buyer for the region. I took a dramatic change when I started video games journalism/writing for a couple of "top50" video games websites, general stuff like reviewing and interviews including a couple with Chet Faliszek. I stopped this after 6 months or so and started college to learn coding. This lead to a programming job for a small games company which went to a developer/designer role.
As a forum with over 10 million posts and replies, people from around the games industry do visit System Wars, mainly for trends and reaction to reviews.
Many years ago, I left System Wars as it became a bit "cancerous".Intelligent discussion was often paved over by chilsish bickering and "trolling". If you look hard enough you will find stimulating debate rather than" This is better because it's what I think"
On to the Playstation 4, it's a deep subject to say the least. What is Sony's strategy?
The glory days of the Playstation 2, were also the glory days of Sony, Walkman was the unrivaled market leader, Sony Ericsson the king of mobiles and Bravia TVS were top of the pile. If you compare that to now, the Walkman is all but dead, Bravia TVS lie middle to bottom when compared to LG, Samsung and Panasonic and Sony's mobile devision is not one of the big players.
Playstation has also followed this trend, from the Playstation 2 that sold over 130 million units in a market that also had the Xbox ( 25 million + ) and the GameCube (20 million +) to being last of the pack with half the predecessor's sales. Meanwhile Microsoft more than tripled their market share and Nintendo by over 5 fold.
So what does the Playstation 4 need to do ? Most of the marketing from Sony's gaming devision has had a focus on hardware power and most reports suggest that they want to keep the title of "The most powerful home console"
But at what cost does this come? The playstation 3 only started breaking even just over 2 years ago, until that point they were making a loss on each unit sold. This is not uncommon, the brunt of the money making comes from the licensing of the games (around about £6-£7 on each game) but in Sony's financial state and after a very slow start for the PSVita this is more unlikely to happen this time round.
So when you combine the want of being the most powerful, and the likely reluctance to want to endure years of a loss, this can only mean one of two things.
The console will not be as powerful as they suggest OR the console will launch at a high price.
Another problem facing both Sony and Microsoft is, What really is next gen ? Each new home console has brought a new emphasis, but what will be the selling point this time around. Bigger games and better graphics is not next gen, they need to do something that has not been done on previous consoles.
How can Sony suceed with the Playstation 4
- Price point, this gen they have been the most expensive and it has hit them hard.
- Killer Intellectual Properties, something with the selling power of Call of Duty or Halo.
- Third party exclusives - One of Microsoft's best moves was get timed exclusives on the biggest games, it worked much more effective than Sony piling massive amounts of money in to new studios.
- A real genuine next gen experience. Now this is where I get stuck, it needs to be either a gimmick that takes off like motion gaming on the Wii, or Free2Play, imagine if Planetside 2 came pre-loaded on every PS4 ready to play, then if gamers like it they can pay the subcription cost, a massive win-win for both Sony and the gamer.
- Revise the Cell processor, this would mean lower R&D costs and potential backwards compatibility.
What to expect with the Playstation 4
- No backwards compatibility - to cut costs
- The controller you have been seeing touted as the PS4 controller.
- Potential costs for online, Microsoft made insane amounts on Xbox live and people didn't mind paying.
- Not much of a graphical leap
- Loads of CG movies at the launch tonight
- The return of familiar franchises
- More PC type games, expect this with the amounts of RAM rumoured to be inside.
- Mini Applications akin to an App Store.
- More emphasis on social gaming and Pay2Play
What to expect of next gen overall-
Graphically you are not going to see much more that Ultra on PC games of today, not because the technology is not powerful enough, but because of costs.
Making games look life like is not done by adding better hardware or pressing a button, it is done by hugely increased financial and man power.
A good example is Gran Turismo 5, most of the cars do not look as good as the rest due to the time and money required to make such intricate models, even then the game was reported to cost $70+ million to make.
Ok, I'm getting tired, hope you enjoyed reading, feel free to ask me questions on anything I covered!!
