As a long time Rangers fan, I'm kind of excited about them coming in under the radar. Everyone is talking about the Angels, because of Pujols, which is understandable.
Even losing CJ, Yu Darvish is the real deal. ZIPS is projecting him to go 13-7 with a 3.63 ERA, and his sabermetric stats look even better (high strikeout rate, low walk rate, doesn't rely on his defense to be good).
Josh Hamilton had a down 2011, and Nelson Cruz was hurt most of they year until the playoffs. You saw how he did in October. There's no way Napoli will have as good of a year as he did last season, but I think he can still be an elite hitting catcher.
It's going to be a much closer race (Texas has won the division by 10 games the last two seasons), but the Angels don't have the fielding and offense that the Rangers have.
The Angels have an advantage in pitching (obviously), but it's not nearly as big as analysts have made it seem.
