This money should be going to smell-o-vision. Can Sony do anything right?

Even though Breaking Bad has a lot of great moments, I'll have to go with Mad Men.

Vince Gilligan played it way too safe with the past 2 season of Breaking Bad. Especially the third which I thought was kind of messy and disappointing as a whole. Even though season 4 was better, it was still uneven thanks to the first couple of episodes. Season 2 is still the greatest of them all.

With Mad Men the quality just rises from one season to the next. (except 3>4 by a tad) This is mostly thanks to the great ensemble cast and the antics of Don. I'm not sure about where the whole Joan and Sterling story point is heading. It just seems to soap opera-y.

So yeah in conclusion The Wire>Mad Men>Breaking Bad.

Saw Drive at tiff yesterday. Gosling and cinematography was great. it was kind of predictable, but it was done with so much stile that i didn't care.  Gosling, Bryan Cranston, Albert Brooks and the director Nicolas Refn were there and had a Q&A afterwards. Gosling didn't really talk much and seemed a bit awkard but Cranston was hilarious and great. Someone in the audience asked if the movie was in any way influenced by the game driver, there was an awkard silence, then Refn said "I do not know what that is", and Cranston just said "Yes". When Gosling left the theatre a bunch of teenage girls were chasing after the car he got into.everyone laughed. Refn won the best director award at cannes this year for it, i'd say it is well deserved.

really good movie, go watch it this friday.

The Night of the Hunter

Watched it today, started from the beginning and I enjoyed it much more. the preacher is such a fantastic and creepy villain, mitchum was great. the cinimatography was amazing. very strange movie with a great atmosphere. i didn't really like how it all wrapped up, but everything before that was sublime (except for the kids acting)

Watched In the Mood for Love again. probably one of the best looking movies i have seen. and a great soundtrack. loved it.

watched magnificent seven. doesn't touch the original, and the last third/battle scene really sucked. besides that t'was ok.

also saw gangs of new york. daniel day lewis was great. the first scene was the highlight of the movie. cameron diaz sucked, both her character and acting. so many famous actors though. it was also meh.

watched the first half hour of the Night of the Hunter. not really feeling it so far. the main villain is fantastic, but besides that nothing is really interesting me. will watch the rest later.

Sympathy for Mr. Vengeance is actually the best of the trilogy, with Lady Vengeance being the worst. Anybody who says differently is selling you a bag of lies.

TreyoftheDead

Lady Vengeance and Mr Vengeance are the 2 competing for 1st.

I thought Mr. vengeance was considered the worst...

What? Who told you this? They are wrong!

Mr. Vengeance>Oldboy>Lady Vengeance

This is the only correct answer.

The internet told me so. Do you not like Lady Vengeance or are the other two just that much better? The cinematography was so beautiful in this film...

I guess i'll just buy the trilogy on bluray. I heard it comes with the fade to black & white edition for Lady Vengeance, so that should be interesting.

Great list. Still, In the Mood for Love should be first :P drinkerofjuice

I feel like I have to watch it again. I love the movie, but I remember feeling like the last third wasn't as good as the rest of the film.

Still have to watch Chungking Express and all of the other Wong movies.

I also still want to watch the chaser, a bittersweet life, and I saw the devil.

watched the diving bell and the butterfly. wow. might have to change that list a bit...

also watched GI Joe which probably had more explosions than any other movie i have seen. so yeah that was terrible

and finally i watched Lady Vengeance, which was the first Park film I have seen. really enjoyed most of it. Oldboy is supposed to be the greatest of the revenge trilogy, so I have to somehow come across that film...

Watched No Country for Old Men again. yep its still the best movie of that decade.

so yea the list is

1. No Country for Old Men

2. Cache (hidden)

3. Before Sunset

4. 4 months 3 weeks and 2 days

5. Spring Summer Fall Winter... and Spring

6. Mother

7. In the Mood for Love

8. Spirited Away

9. The Lives of Others

10. Children of Men

Order after the first three usually changes.

Anywho Canada's netflix is now a wasteland, except Twin Peaks is supposed to come in September, so thats pretty swell. Going to watch the Diving Bell and the Butterfly later today, supposed to be good.
