Does the harddrive for the 360 survive once the console recieves the red rings of death? Don't want to lose my gamertag profile, achievements, saved games..etc. I have a memory card but it won't allow me to copy my gamertag profile onto it..it only gives the move option. Is it a good idea to move just my gamertag profile onto a memory card or would that mess up the way the harddrive works..as far as saving games and recieving achievement points. Anyone know?

If its damned if u do and damned if u dont, why void the warranty in the process? Just my 2 cents.PittsburgJets93
cause my warranty is already expired and if I do get the 3 red lights then I don't have to worry cause that's covered. I'll rather use the intercooler and have my games not freeze instead of not using it and have my games freeze and finally get the 3 red lights.
Just turned off the 360 with the intercooler working on it for the first time and it seems to have solved the freezing problem even though I played for about 2 hours which is still kinda long but it didn't freeze once. So i'm happy with it so far, seems like it's keeping the console really cool and that's probably and hopefully the reason why some games I played were freezing, cause of the overheating. But Recoil816 did mention that everything seems fine the first time you play with the intercooler then it just slowly makes the console worst so that kinda still worries me a bit. I guess my 360 is pretty much damned either way with or without the intercooler so it doesn't really matter to me anymore. I'll definitely post here again if this thing brakes down my 360 so nobody else will go buy it.
The problem is I have not recieved the 3 red lights yet, and i'm tired of waiting for it...so I don't know what to do, is it even worth sending it in for repair and paying for it? how much does it cost to fix the freezing problem once they figure out what exactly is causing it..100? 150? please don't tell me 200 bucks.lol
Sorry to be the bearer of bad news dude, but you wasted your money. Those aftermarket intercoolers are absolute junk, and 90% of the time they will either make your problems worse, or destroy your system. You're better off disconnecting that pile of garbage. At first they seem to work great, but then they begin to make more and more noise every time you turn the system on. Eventually, the damn thing will literally fuse to your system and totally ruin it. Don't use it, unless you're planning on buying a new system anyways.Recoil816
Thanks for the info, well no I don't plan on buying a new 360,I still have the same one I bought back in feb 2006 and have only used up 3 GB out of the 14 so i'm guessing it doesn't have a hard drive problem but like I said my warranty is expired and I can't stand the way it freezes some games, just finished Overlord two days ago and it never froze over the week I played it, then I played the darkness and it froze like 4 times in one hour so I don't know what the hell my consoles problem is. Everyone keeps telling me that it's probably overheating that's why it freezes, so I thought the intercooler would be the answer but after what you said, well that sucks. I'm going to the video game store I bought it from now and taking my 360 with me since i'm noticing a small gap and a dent on the intercooler once it's all snapped in to the back of the console, so either i'm gonna get my money back cause it looks defective or i'm gonna have the manager put it on himself and see if the small gap is gone, if not i'm getting my money back.
Hi people, bought the 360 around the time it first came out and ofcourse with it came the freezing problem with some games I played. Experienced my first freeze with Oblivion, and wow did it freeze a lot. Gears of war actually only froze one time..first day I played it and never gave me any problems after that. Call of duty 2 and 3, Quake 4, Prey, Lost planet and some other games I played over the months never froze on me at all.
After finishing Lost Planet there were no games I was interested in so I packed up the 360 in it's box and put it in my closet. Now 5 months later or so I brought the monster out of the closet and bought Bioshock, been playing it for 3 days and it already froze on me twice. I plan to keep this machine busy till the rest of the year since there are many games I want to play on it but fear that the freezing problem is going to continue.
After reading some of the posts above i'm wondering does my 360 even qualify as broken? I know it does in some way but I have not yet recieved RROD. I know microsoft will charge me if I send it in for repair right now so I guess i'm gonna have to bare with the freezing problem till I get this RROD. sucks. :(
