I'm operating on Vista Ultimate, 32 bit, 4 GB RAM, 600 GB HD, blah blah blah.

I'll try to install Black & White 2 but when I click on the button to install it, an error pops up saying that "setup has encountered an error, please do the following: close any running programs, empty your temporary folder, and check internet connection, then try again."

Any ideas?

Operating system? System specs?

Could you give us a little more information on what is happening at the moment please; are you getting errors when starting programs? what kind of error and which programs? You say everything seems messed up, what else was wrong?

I've had experience of being unable to get programs to run and having a lot of general errors on a machine with a RAM unit that became faulty. We'll need some more information on what is going on before anybody can be sure how to help you though.

Have you tried anything to fix it?

First, I'm not going to reinstall it until I know how to avoid that problem. System specs I should have included, sorry, I completely forgot. I'm running the OS Windows Vista Ultimate, I've got I think 6 GB RAM, 600 GB hard drive, dual 280-or-something video cards, and some other stuff. Frankly, I'm not up on all my machine's specs. As for the errors, there are no error messages. Originally the game crashed and then I uninstalled it. Then I tried to fire up another game only to get some message that the root exe (in the program files) wasn't there anymore. And I think it was the same for my other exes too. If you still have no idea, that's fine. I'll talk to somebody soon so I can ask them.

I found System Shock 2 somewhere and bought it. It installed fine and when I fired it up there were compatability issues, which I was expecting. Anyway I uninstalled it because I didn't want to mess with figuring out a working compatability mode. After that all my programs were screwed up. Program exes weren't working and it seemed like the whole machine was messed up.

Does anyone know why this happened?
Also, all the program files for System Shock 2 were actually placed in the C drive without a folder.

In all honesty, I think collector's editions are just for novel value. In anticipation of a new game being released, a buyer would be more prone to pay an extra $30-$40 on bonus stuff. And it seems as of late, collector's editions haven't included anything that great to justify the extra money.

Answering your first question, yeah, it would be a good idea. Amazon is trustworthy. And concerning your computer, you need to be more specific.

I'd say Borderlands if you're into online FPS games. If you're into RPGs, get Last Remnant.

Yeah, I think I have the same issues. If you've played GTA IV for the PC for any period of time you should know the game is a real pain in terms of performance and stability.
