you never know Dakuu. what if the zorse is black, but the stripes that are normally white are brown now because the horse parent was that color? you couldnt really come to your conclusion unless you knew what color the horse parent was and most likely what color some its ancestors were (just in case he color skipped a generation or something.). and your right, genetics is confusing, but its evolution that makes scientists beleive that zebras are black with white stripes. think about a fully white zebra living on the plains of Africa. it wouldnt last too long because it would be extremely visible. if that white zebra were black, then it would be alot less likely to be eaten.
the stripes evolved as a defense mechanism to confuse the color-blind predators who hunted them. i you look at a crowd of zebras standing together, its very hard to make out one from the other. consequently, a lion would rather just go catch a gazelle rather than take a chance on prey it cant see.
