Top 10 Albums of 2008: #3

Hey, I hope everyone is doing well. Well, it's time for number three on my countdown. Things have been -- well, to start off, really busy lately. Just as a heads up, after tonight I won't be on here until Friday evening at the earliest because I am competing in my state HOSA competition so just thought I'd let you know. :) Wish me luck! :P And in other news, things at home have been ... Well, extremely rocky and not the best to be honest. I'm just doing my best to distract myself from what's going on at home and focusing on other things. If I'm not active as often lately after Friday, then that's probably the reason why. So here we go with number three:

#3: David Cook -- David Cook

DC

The two finalists from the seventh season of American Idol have solid spots on this countdown, but quite clearly, the winner of the season showcases immeasureable talent on stage, and in the studio with the production of an album that show's quite clearly why David Cook is such a hit across the United States. The album is done very well and simple put, it has exceeded my expectations of what I was expecting to receive. The entire album is brilliant with excellent instrumentals, high production values, and of course, brilliant songwriting and singing by none other than David Cook himself. This album blends a mix of soft rock n' roll as well as some great piano ballads to accompany David's mesmerizing voice, which along with his lyrics, willl always captivate listeners to come back for more. David Cook releases an album that brings memories to his fantastic performances on television and the album also gives listeners a vivid and pleasant image of what they can expect when they see David perform. The album definitely does not come as a disappointinment for those who stayed in touch with David's brilliant performances, and this solid album will bring many new listeners into his market who will always enjoy him for years to come.

Top 10 Albums of 2008: #4

Hey guys, I hope you are doing well as we are making our way through the middle of March. :) Things are going well on my end, just studying for my state HOSA competition on Friday and just relaxing a bit while I can. A week ago, I had the flu and now I've come down with a cold. Talk about bad luck! Oh well it could be worse. :P In other news, I'm enjoying Sonic & the Secret Rings. I can see that the game has its flaws, but I'm still happy I picked the title up (for $15.00!). Well here we are with the next entry in my countdown, hope you guys enjoy it!

#4. Day & Age -- The Killers

Day and age

The third studio album released by the alternative rock band, The Killers came as a successful album that will appeal to many. Since the Killers introduced their sound in 2004, the band has produced a number of hit tracks with deep lyrics and fantastic intstrumentals to boot. Day & Age released with an album that is not only lyrically impressive like it's predecessors, but also stands as an album with an excellent level of instrumentals. This album stands out as one where it showcases the sound that the Killers are recognized for. The lyrical content of the album will make you think, and it's incredibly enjoyable as it varies from ffairytales, spacemen or the intense life of Las Vegas, providing content that isn't found on any other album. Unique as it may sound, that all are put together nicely by brilliant songwriting that makes this a success, while also providing insight to the band members' life experiences. As a fan of the Killers for nearly five years, I came away from this album continually singing melodies and lyrics in my head, with the delivery of quite possibly the best Killers album to date. This album is a definite recommendation to anyone looking for a unique approach on the alternative rock genre.

Top 10 Albums of 2008: #5

Well this blog is coming a little late rather than what was normally seen with my past blogs, but I haven't been able to access my computer as often lately. But now that I'm back on, I have the opportune moment to add the next addition to my countdown. In terms of real life, things have been going well. :) Today, I received my copy of Sonic and the Secret Rings that I purchased on Amazon after two weeks of waiting. It's nearly midnight and I received it this afternoon and haven' t played it yet, but I will when I have more time to dedicate toward a long run with it. I'm happy for receiving my copy, though in complete honesty, my excitement toward the game has dwindled a bit since the reception that has been received for Sonic and the Black Knight. I was anticipating the game highly, and just hearing how it is such a lazy and simply work of development, it kind of has made me a little less excited to play Sonic lately. Regardless of that, I'll still have a good time with his first (and hopefully not last) Wii adventure. And I must say, it's enjoyable knowing that about one year ago, I purchased Super Smash Bros. Brawl. :) It was an exciting night at midnight and my gameplay and love for the game is as strong as it ever was. Well, onto the countdown:

#5. Season Of Poison -- Shiny Toy Guns

GT

The sophomore album released by the band Shiny Toy Guns is one that took me by surprised. I was informed that one of the main vocalists of the band was replaced; that came as a bit of a disappointment for me, but because I enjoyed their debut album so much, I decided to pick up their next album and give it a spin. I came away with higher reactions than I expected and was pleased to not put away my faith in the band due to a member replacement. Despite that, the album still possesses many hints that connect it with its predecessor, as well as a number of changes that initiate the band going into a more hardcore direction. This album, like the previous album, has a wide array of electronic instrumentals, although the album has tracks that are supported more frequently by real life instrumentation. The male vocalist remains the same delivering the same mesmerizing vocals that many have come to enjoy, and the female vocal replacement does a fair job at delivering for fans of the band. The more hardcore approach toward the album is not one that is out of place, though of course, it comes along with a series of darker lyrics and tracks on the album. Despite that, the tracks on the album all deliver well and provide the same quality of music that individuals have come to be accustomed with with this band. Alternative rock and electronica fans should definitely take note of this album and if not, at least the band which isn't the most known band amongst the music industry. With more quality albums like their debut album as well as Season of Poison, Shiny Toy Guns will continue to make a positive impact on the music industry by providing great and memorable tracks that listeners will grow to love.

  • Ghost Town
  • Ricochet!
  • Poison

Here we go with the next entry in my blog. I hope everything has been going well with everybody! Thanks for keeping in touch and posting some great blogs for me to keep in touch with. :) Nothing much is really new for me, just counting the days through March waiting for April to come along, and soon the end of the school year. I've just been studying a lot, I have my state HOSA competition in two weeks. Anybody heard of that organization for school? Well anyway, here we go with the sixth entry for 2008:

#6. David Archuleta -- David Archuleta

DA

The debut album of the American Idol runner-up for the winner of the seventh season released his debut album. The album comes together as a good starting album for the incredible vocalist's singing career. Archuleta's vocal abilitiy is heard quite well on the album and is all produced nicely to provide the same vocal experience that listeners have come to love about his voice. The album lyrically contains content that you would expect from the teenage star to sing about. As seen with his hit single "Crush", the majority of the album contains tracks that are similar to his debut single from the album. With that being said, many people will have a good idea of what to expect from the album in terms of lyrical content, yet there is enough variety so that it does not get tiresome. The record contains a good variation of melodies and nice composed tracks hinting and blends of pop and R&B sounds, as well as the nice melodic sound of the piano that many have come to tie together with Archuleta's vocals. The album is clean, and a fresh start to the debut singer's musical career on the Billboard charts, and hopefully this young singer will continue to dish out clean and memorable tracks for listeners to keep their interest.

Top 10 Albums of 2008: #7

It's me again, posting another entry in my series of blogs. Things have been going alright, I hope you are enjoying the list so far. :) As things are, I'm still sick actually so I'm fighting away the flu as I type this. Being sick, I've been trying my best to keep up with the difficulties of school work but it's working out alright. The end of the year is approaching. In other news, I've been extremely disappointed with the acclaim IGN gave Sonic & The Black Knight. I was expecting this to hopefully be a turning point for the Sonic series (since they seemed to improving) but I was vastly wrong (according the opinion of IGN). I guess I'll look into it more before I give this game a play, it still appeals to me greatly. But anyway, reagardless of that, let's get on to music.

#7. Hard Candy -- Madonna

hard candy

Here we have the latest entry provided by the pop queen, Madonna. The album is a great follow up to her Grammy award winning album, Confessions On A Dance Floor, and this album is entirely composed of dance music with a number of various lyrics in Madonna's album. The album consists of a number of a memorable tunes and as a whole, the entire album itself stands strong with what it provides for listeners. The beats are heavy, the bass is strong, and Madonna's unique voice will captivate you along with her interesting lyrical contents. Marking the end of her 25th year recording with her studio, Madonna impresses well with an album that will definitely be remembered for 2008. If you aren't into pop, dance music, or the eccentric attitude of Madonna, it wouldn't hurt to pass up this album. However, if you are craving an album with plenty of variety, dance friendly beats, and one of the artists who knows the pop genre the best, then this album is worth checking out.

Top 10 Albums of 2008: #8

Hey everyone. This blog post is a little bit over due, but some things have been happening lately. Nothing significant but it's just been enough to keep my attention toward a few other things. As of today, I'm kind of coming down with the flu. :( So that's a bummer, I don't really think I can miss school tomorrow but I'll try my best to keep on top of school work, among other things. Well, the other day I was rather annoyed: I accidently purchased Ocarina of Time on the Virtual Console. :| It IS one my favorite games, but I wanted to purchase Paper Mario. It was a stupid accident -- I was just curious as to how many blocks Ocarina of Time would take up, so I read about it then accidently downloaded it instead of backing out of the page. What a waste of $10.00 ... I think? Oh well, things could be worse. :P I guess it'll be nice to have for collector's purposes anyway.

#8. Good Girl Gone Bad: Reloaded -- Rihanna

GG

I know that the original version of this album released in 2007; however, I didn't happen to pick that version up and I ended up with this 2008 release instead. All in all, I found that the album was a good one and it's understandable why the singles received some wide spread attention amongst listeners across the world. I personally never thought I would be into Rihanna or this album, but the more I listened to it and heard about it, I just had to pick it up. I was in fact happy with my decision to have this album and found that this is a great package for anyone looking for some great pop and R&B music. The album has a number of songs that I do not care for: quite simply, I do not like rap music in the slightest sense, so a number of songs with hints of that genre are an immedate turn off for me. Despite that, the album presents the same number of dance hits and ballads that the 2007 original made so popular, as well as some great content that justifies the deluxe edition so well. The album has some great production values, Rihanna has beautiful vocals, and the album is just a smooth and great album that I would recommend to anyone interested in this genre. (And by the way, this is the UK Edition of the album cover, I happen to like it a bit better).

Recommended Songs:

  • Umbrella (Ft. Jay-Z)
  • Don't Stop The Music
  • Shut Up And Drive
  • Hate That I Love You (Ft. Ne-Yo)
  • Take A Bow
  • Disturbia
  • If I Never See Your Face Again (Ft. Maroon 5)

Top 10 Albums of 2008: #9

Hello everyone. :) Well here I am again, ready posting the new entry for my No. 9 album of 2008. Not much is going on, just studying for school and playing a bit of Brawl with my boyfriend and online. Things have been going well, I hope they have been for you! So here we go, here's my No. 9 choice:

#9. Funhouse -- P!nk

Funhouse

Again, this is probably an artist in which many people do not enjoy listening to. Despite that, I found that P!nk has released another studio album which to me, is great compilation of pop rock hits. The album is a rather emotional one for her, dealing with issues of break up, sadness, anger, and just baout any type of emotion relevant to an individual's emotional roller coaster of a relationship. Although, I do find it rather -- well, unattractive in my case, that the majority of the songs on the album have the suggestive content of alcohol in nearly ever song, but that it more of my own personal bickering than any other's about the lyrical or song content on the album. Despite that, the album has a number of memorable songs, from good to dance to tunes to some emotional ballads. It's a good mixture of both in a more mature and personal pop album released this year.

Recommended Songs:

  • So What
  • Sober
  • I Don't Believe You
  • Pleas Don't Leave Me
  • It's All Your Fault

Top 10 Albums of 2008: #10

Hello. :) Just as an introduction, I thought I would post a series of blogs showing my favorite albums of 2008. I'm sure some of you will not be pleased with my choices, and some of you might, but it's something that I thought would be fun. I used to do a number of countdowns on my older account so it will be fun to do this I think. So without further ado, sit back, relax and read. :P

#10. Pretty. Odd. -- Panic! At The Disco

Pretty Odd

Either you love them or you hate them, Panic! At The Disco isn't a band for everyone. I was honestly a little surprised when I picked up this CD. Their last album to me was enjoyable, but nothing specialy. I decided to pick up a copy of this album and to my surprise, I enjoyed it quite a bit more than their other album. The album contains interesting instrumentals that harmonize well in a different but entertaining sound. Many state that the album provides a recollection back to the sound of The Beatles, but it something more appealing toward this generation. Lyrically, this album is quite different from it's predecessor, but it's enjoyable and provides some poetic lyrics that can be really enjoyable to sit back and listen to, letting one's imagination take a ride on the fun, imaginiative world that Pretty. Odd provides.
