[QUOTE="Blaze-Agent"]

[QUOTE="delta3074"]what DC? the 360 is still 2.1 million ahead, read the whole thread dude.Allthishate

i know that. But DC is stillhappening. Making excuses left and right as to why ps3 outsold 360 by 1.4 million in the past quarter. I exoect thesame results come Holiday season. But i dont care about that. Its the DC that makes it fun

its a shame 360 does not sell well in japan. dem japs dont like anything but *** products :S .

In a way I can understand, it's easy to think xenophobia, but the gaming market is now western games for western gamers and Japanese games mostly for Japanese gamers. Graphics aren't even important to them according to Capcom. So their version of the 360 in terms of software would have to be almost a complete overhaul in theory.

Doesn't matter, the 360 got half the market without Japan. As I predicted from the beggining it's going to end up 50/50. Next gen it'll start out 50/50 which is more important to MS than winning or lossing by one or two million.

Why do people forget the big picture. The 360 has been a massive success and achievment for MS, in all but Japan. Actually I think MS won, in that they nulified Japan in western areas. It used to be far and away, the most important of the 3 (EU, NA and Japan).

[QUOTE="Darth_DuMas"]Nintendo was just waiting for performance to improve, something Sony have never cared about, which is apparent with the long load times of the PS1 and 2.tormentos
Everything on CD,DVD or Blu-Ray had load times,Nintendo wasn't waiting for tech to improve, they did not own the tech and failed in several deals with both Sony and phillips,NIntendo wanted to keep the rights to something that wasn't theirs, the dispute mainly was the right to the tech. Load times were not important in any way,you could put music on a tape and would start hearing sounds as soon as you hot play,CD had loading which make you wait a few seconds for the music to load, but the quality of the music was much much better, just like the quality of CD was over cartridge,so unimportant loading was, that they won the generation by a long shot and on the PS2 by an even bigger margin.

It wasn't just about the discs, but the drives. Back then the use of CD impacted what could be done in a game, for example, I remember in an Nintendo interview they were talking about Zelda OoT and they said using CD (as it was back then) they couldn't do a transitional audio effect, like blend tracks so on and so forth. It wasn't just about load times, there were other performance advantages.

It's the use of high speed drives, larger ram and HDDs that compensate for any deficiencies in optical technologies. Make no mistake, optical media is a slow clumsy technology. It's just allows for a high storage to low cost ratio like nothing else. Sony have always had an interest in boosting the technology by any means. With PS one, they had already developed the tech, with the following gens they wanted the media to become more successful.

Look at the 360, it uses DVDs but capacity aside, it's pushing it as far as it can go. To run a game it needs to be running at more or less full 12x speed constantly which is noisy and just wears the drive. It's just rubbish, the difference an install makes in most areas is significant.

[QUOTE="Gue1"] And what about the disc formart that Nintendo were so resistant to include? Sony made it popular with the PS1 and then they had to follow suit. This in itself has been more beneficial to gaming than most Nintendo "innovations".

ChubbyGuy40

Pfft, Nintendo was gonna include discs before they were cool for the SNES.

That addon was called the Playst-...oh wait.

Discs gave mass storage and were cheaper to produce, however cartridges were way faster at loading. PS1 loading times anyone? N64 users didn't know what loading was. Discs gave way to pre-rendered cutscenes, which drove up production costs so companies can be all cool with CGI. :P

Nintendo was just waiting for performance to improve, something Sony have never cared about, which is apparent with the long load times of the PS1 and 2.

Why do games seem to be so naive when it comes to topics like this? Between how piracy works, analogies of used game sales, and outside influences by companies like Apple you certainly do have to read a lot of uninformed dribble. Now what we know right now is that Yes, in the past Nintendo has called out Apple as being the biggest threat to the industry And yes, Nintendo is posting their first annual loss EVER Well, let me rephrase that. Yes, in the past the MOST SUCCESSFUL GAMING COMPANY IN EXISTENCE has called out Apple as being the biggest threat to the industry And yes, the MOST SUCCESSFUL GAMING COMPANY IN EXISTENCE is posting their first annual loss ever. Why people continue to think the iPhone hasn't disrupted the gaming market I'll never know.SW__Troll

Nintendo are fools, the only threat apple has is to Nintendo's greedy business model. If Nintendo thinks they can keep selling handheld software at the price of PC games, they're on crack. Apple have brought cheap gaming and Nintendo are afraid because they have to adapt.

But in terms of actually changing the way we play and what we play, it hasn't done much.

One sells software at £2 and the other trys to sell at £25 and wonders why sales are effected.

I think people are getting mixed up with opening or expanding markets and having an actual impact on gaming. I respect Steve Jobs, but to say he's more influential or has had a bigger impact that Shigeru Miyamoto is hugely insulting. That's an absolute slap in the face.

He brought out a succsefull smart phone and people brought out a load of mini games.

Lets put this into context. The iphone is very capable, the DS so much less so, yet Nintendo has done so much more with a lot less at their disposal. And then sold crap loads.

Apple hasn't impacted gaming, not a lot has changed. They've barely impacted handheld gaming. It hasn't changed how Sony and Nintendo deal with handhelds.

This just sounds like a giant stab in the back to the people who actually shaped gaming.

If they want to talk sales, Nintendo started it with the highest selling handhelds, Sony opened up home console gaming like it's not even funny, the Wii went a step further in reaching out to non gamers. Those people started it and actually shaped our industry to how we know it.

The word impact to me means caused actual change. At best the iPhone is a competitor to handheld gaming, but it hasn't changed anything yet.Steve jobs is hugely important to the computer industry, but those people are doing the games industry a disservice by giving him some honorary position in the games industry because he died (RIP).

I will have to wait and see before I make judgment- still there has to be lots of games and software that will make good use of Biometrics.

Maybe a horror game that senses your stress and pressure onthe control pad and you heartbeat is amplified on in the game- a sort of reverse game feedback.

Maybe consoles in the future could end up acting like a hybrid controller cross with with a tablet?!? to emphasis their ease of use and power.

I admit I have been impressed with some of Sony's hardware offerings lately such their 3 Binoculors and this thing too

Sony Personal 3d Viewer

AdmiralBison

That thing must be awesome, but it's about £800. On top of 5.1 and 3D it gives a 720p image but because of the nature of it, the screen size is like cinema (movie theatre) huge in your eyes. I'd love to have one of those.
