@Landsharkk @david1230

I don't disagree. In fact I reinforced in my original post that they should not be forced, and EVEN if they are willing to work... the conditions should be ok and not cause ANY halm to the children (that includes emotional, mental and physical, etc.)

David is clearly much more informed than I am, and I am glad that he could post that, because it helps to inform myself and others of the circumstances surrounding these children. Although, I hope no one thought that I was so ignorant that I would post something that would oppose what David has stated about Foxconn and their treatment of these children.

@david1230

Well that was not my intention, and I am apologetic to anyone who thought that I was arguing that point.

The circumstances that these children could be in are sickening really (as you described)... I guess I am just hopeful that people couldn't possibly be that evil... then I remember that they're human.

@david1230 @Dekanis Nowhere did I rationalize forced child labor, I simply stated that I did not understand the intricacies of the issue. It is extremely wrong and disgusting for companies to allow such a thing to go on... as I stated before.

I barely even knew who Foxconn were until recently... but I don't understand why so many companies (western and eastern) would continue to do business with them if this is all true (not saying that it isn't).

The premise of my argument was if the kids were WILLING to work and they were being treated fairly in all aspects, then perhaps the government is overly oppressive in SOME circumstances... However, I never said kids should be allowed to be forced into child labor. My argument was never pro Foxconn.

Well, all that has been admitted is child labor at the ages of 14 and up (not saying that it is right)... At that age working is permitted in most western countries when they have parental permission. They did not admit to any of the other allegations, which is why Nintendo is investigating the issues.

I'm not claiming that I fully understand the problems attached to this... but if these kids were willing to work there and saw it as a means to help their families, is the government being too oppressive? In any instance relating to this, it is sad that the children feel that they need to work, but I think it is much more scarring for a child to lose everything and go days without a meal, than to work at that age (provided that the working conditions are ok).

However, if the other allegations are true... and the children are being forced to work, are put into a workplace that does not meet standards and are surrounded by a negative environment because of it... then Foxconn should be shut down permanently. It is disgusting when adults abuse the rights of children.

I think it would be good for the western world to trade positions with the countries that suffer in this way. Kids of the west aren't growing up... some people reach 30 and still think with the rationale of a 10 year old. Whereas, these kids in China and other countries have moved on from childhood way too early... they would at least appreciate the lifestyle we take for granted.

@vault-boy @LordWaffleKing

Because they only mention Nintendo. While in the real world, Apple, Sony, Microsoft, etc. also use this same company to put their devices together.

However, they have mentioned that Nintendo is the only one investigating it.

@Wish01 @abHS4L88

However, a number of people may not need extra storage and others may have external HDDs already. It isn't like they're going to give you larger inbuilt storage at no extra cost... so may as well have a wider option.

@mdboomer You'll likely only have to set it up as you encounter new situations in a level, once you set it up, most enemies will be able to be dealt with through the use of those combos. My guess is that people are worrying that ever two seconds will require you to set up a new combo, although I highly doubt that is the case...

@TOBIAS_SAIBOT Please, please, PLEASE! Get a dictionary or something so you can find out what gimmick actually means.

Chances are you'll likely only have to set up combos once or twice in a level, you won't be setting them up in every battle, especially once you find combos which are varied enough to help you work your way through the majority of enemies in a level/ the game.

I don't think that it is an issue with violence, exactly... It is more about the attitude that developers and gamers alike have towards the depiction of violence. Almost every modern game has some level of violence whether you're throwing shells in Mario Kart or decaptiting limbs in [enter any Zombie game or some shooters, etc. here]. The over-exposure to violence is awful. Don't tell me it isn't messed up when violence starts becoming a sexual experience for some adolescence and adults. Games and movies alike can be the building blocks for a sociopathic serial killer, of course this is only a very small minority. All people are still desensitized to violence through watching it play out, especially when innocent humanoid characters can be killed with what seems to be no repercussions.

I view violence in games and movies in the same way as I view swearing or sex scenes. When creatively appropriate and carried out in a sophisticated manner it can hold strong relevance and be imperitive to the media-type and therefore acceptable. Although when something is purposelessly done in order to simply attract the ignorant people who think that it is exciting to see limbs flying over the screen and blood splattering everywhere for no apparent reason other than "it looks cool", there is a serious problem with society.

Spector is right in saying that there needs to be a level. There is nothing wrong with violence, but when it becomes an addiction where people begin to think that it is "grown-up" to play games or watch movies with extreme violence, that is really immature. I really worry about people who say they need violence in the media... it doesn't show you to be a level headed person if you can't enjoy something without violence. Even if you enjoy it more for having more graphic depictions of it, it is worrying.
