That pie chart doesnt factor in console hardware and games seprately however npd sales figures do and multipalts reptely sell worse on pc in most cases.

Wrong, that chart does not include hardware at all, it's all games. If you actually look at the PDF referenced in the article it will give you a detailed overview of what the numbers mean.

The pie chart shows consoles at 43% of the marke I dont see where they break up the individual consoles. They group them in one chart but regardless tha tproves my point consoles are still making the most money.

EA is a large company, yes they have Popcap and The Sims (which are great games/companies) but they also have Valve, Origin and TOR. Is it the PC's faults it's large enough to support both the casual and hardcore gamer?

hypoty

any platform can support both the pc just focuses far more on casual titles then the PS3 or the 360. Its just going to be sad if you get alot less titles like The Wticher and alot more titles like (insert crappy social media game here)

That's balanced off by indie and Euro games (and Valve). In a 30 day period PC is getting E.Y.E, Red Orchestra 2, Serious Sam 3 (PC exclusive initially), Cliffs of Dover, Binding of Issac, Chantalise and Hard Reset, not to mention multiplats like From Dust and Deus Ex. I think that's something that many people don't understand, the PC market is much more segmented than the console market. The fact that Facebook games are thriving isn't affecting the sales of say ArmA 3 or Super Meat Boy.

Also I'm still waiting for you to copy/paste that information. Don't say something without backing it up.

Its 5 pages long pate the link in google and read it yourself.

Go ahead and investigate.

PopCap couldn't have raked in more profit than what EA bought them for in the 2 weeks that it was bought.

You're just talking nonsense.

Mazoch

http://investor.ea.com/releasedetail.cfm?ReleaseID=594196 Its all right there , majority of there profit is from social media, casual gaming portals. How is that a good thing for pc?

Where does it state that the majority of their profit is from social medial and casual gaming portals? The only mention of Social and Casual in that report is in relation to the purchase of PopCap, a purchase that did nothing to generate profits for the fiscal quarter since the purchase was made after the end of the first quarter (the report covers up to June 30th, EA bought PopCap on July 12th

They show the quaterly sales on every platform and the pc is getting romped, so therenot making there profit off standard game sales. So where else is it coming from?

Yep because none of the games on consoles this gen are casual.

I take the lesser of the evils I guess. With the Wii leading the way the pc to follow suite and the 360 soon to close the gap. I guess id have to side with the PS3.

That's ELEVEN days after PopCap was bought.

How would PopCap manage to rake in more than a BILLION with their games in a 11 days long period :?

hypoty

They didnt they have produced other casual and social media games without them , The sims is a great example of this. EA buying popcap just goes to show where EA wants to focus its business. Which is the casual and social media gaming market on the pc. You guys can have it enjoy.

NPD sales don't factor in digital distribution which is a major point for PC.

Another post that doesn't make any sense :?

DD makes 50% of pc sales does it not . Double the sales of most recent multipalts and your still no where near console sales numbers.

[QUOTE="DevilAtrix"]

If you actually read the replies to your post you'd already have to answer to this...

[QUOTE="Mazoch"][QUOTE="DevilAtrix"]Not sure why thats a surprise? The majority of games sell far better on consoels thats pretty much a well known fact by now. And before people start posting ( the massive profits of pc gaming) that has little to do with big budget titles and more to do with the emergence of casual games that are taking over the market. Mazoch

While it obviously differs from case to case, there are more 'non casual / MMO / social' games sold on the PC than on any of the consoles. In '09 PC/Mac sold for 4.6 bn games excluding MMO's, Casual Game Portals and Social Networking games. The consoles (X360, PS3, Wii, DSi & PSP) sold 10.6 total. So all consoles added together sells more games than the PC, but the PC is the biggest platform, and that's without counting the social games, facebook games or the MMO's (source).

Also, before you dismiss PC game sales as being driven by casual games, why are you assuming that it's any diffrent on the consoles. How big a percentage of last years console games were Kinect or Move games, how many were casual Wii sports, fit or dance games?

That pie chart doesnt factor in console hardware and games seprately however npd sales figures do and multipalts reptely sell worse on pc in most cases.

[QUOTE="DevilAtrix"]They just bought popcap they are one of the largest suppliers of social media games. Read there quaterly report !!! Mograine

EA will pay for PopCap more than the profit PopCap makes in the next years.

Which means the deal will not break even in profits before a few years.

Which means, the quartely report shows PopCap was an investment, not a profit.

Get your facts straight.
