Just depends on how much bang you want for you buck. Which on this forum is a narrow minded view of "mah games are pretty" as apposed to the bigger picture (range of games, performance etc)
Next gen consoles will 100% give you more bang for you buck with $500 all in one system compared to upgrading to any high end PC build. Next gen systems are aiming for 4k 60fps and consoles will last an entire generation 5 to 8 years without needing to upgrade or invest in parts. "aiming for 4k 60 FPS" yea, just like the PS3 was aiming for 1080p 120 FPS super computing... stop the bull. They will choose graphics over 4k 60fps as usual.
If you care about the best graphics, you can be sure they're going to be on consoles no matter what PC build you have because PC and multiplat devs aren't going to max out games they development just like this gen. console exclusive devs on the other hand are going to code to the metal and produce the most amazing games you've ever seen with full system capability. But if you care about games in general the PC would be the better choice, more genres, more high quality exclusives overall, best backwards compatibility, more features, mods etc.
Furthermore, PC games are more and more frequent on consoles. With how powerful next gen systems with be and them using X86 architecture games being made specifically for PC, other than low quality basement developed titles, will be virtually non existent. Star Citizen will most likely be seen on consoles shortly after it launches on PC. Some of those "basement" titles are worth more than a 20 hour action TPS... no matter how pretty it looks.
