Not all publishers are bad like Activision or EA and going the Kickstarter route does carry the risk of not meeting their pledge goal.

Already at the halfway point!

If this was any other company they would have just laid off a bunch of people.

I have helped fund three so far and it's a shame that some people try to take advantage of peoples generosity.
