Jim Ward and Adventure games.
by DirkRendar on Comments
The glory days of adventure games are long past and LucasArts is ignoring the need gamers have for the old style adventure game.
Jim Ward was asked about Monkey Island and Day of the Tentacle during an interview at the E3 conference and all he could say was, "You know what?" Those games 'will wait until 2015.' That they had better games and ideas to pursue than adventure games.
You know what? Jim Ward? I've seen enough Star Wars(and I'm a Star Wars fan too) games from LucasArts and the Indiana Jones games have only been good when they were the old style adventure game! 2015? Forget waiting that long. The community needs to get together to make a Monkey Island or Day of the Tentacle remake or sequel on there own! That's what I think. There are a lot of talented gamers out there that could make a nice, professional game and better than LucasArts could.
There are admittedly a few obstacles to doing that... License being the main one. If the company isn't going to make a Monkey Island or other adventure type game then why do they guard their license so closely? Why not loosen up and allow other developers to create some good games based on their license?
We'll have to see how things proceed. As far as the future of Adventure games.. Only time will tell and so far it's giving us the silent treatment.

Albino Symbolism - The Da Vinci Code
by DirkRendar on Comments
Okay I am officially tired of all the Da Vinci Code hype. I could care less, really. It's supposed to be fiction right? Why try and decry the book(which I have not read) if it's fiction? It may make certain individuals nervous and that may be why every other 'Christain' organization is trying to prove the book to be false.
I have not seen the movie and to be honest I am not planing to... maybe when it comes out in the cheap theater here or I'll rent the DVD when that comes out. I like some of the actors in the movie and the director most definitely has some skills but that doesn't make me any more interested in the story line or the characters.
I'd much rather watch X-Men: The Last Stand and be entertained in a fun manor than watch a(reportedly) long @$$ movie that isn't fun to watch at all.
The Beast is all blue and the albino is all white right? What kind of symbolism can we find in those colors? Is the albino a symbolic angel in white come to save humanity? Or is that just what he believes? Is the beast a symbol for the sadness of mankind? It's state of hopelessness? For that matter does he symbolise the beast within all of us?
Hmph... There's another symbol, that of the green reptile that goes by the name of A CROCodile!
Star Trek Online

This game has plenty of potential. That has been said about other MMO's but none of the other ones were about Star Trek.
I consider myself a Trekkie but I'm not all hard core like some might be and I'm not a nit-picker like some either. I enjoy most Science Fiction out there as long as it's no laced with horror or banality.
That's one of the problems I have with the Sci-Fi channel... I enjoy their Sci-fi Friday and some of the shows they play during the week but it seems on saturdays and sometimes sundays they forget they are called the Sci-fi channel not the Horror Station... I'm sorry but PumkinHead is not Sci-fi...
Anyway... Star Trek Online will have only one faction from the beginning which is somewhat of a controversy from the players stand point. I tend to agree with the developers. Not that I've played a ton of MMO's but it seems that most MMO's that have factions are just the same faction with a slightly different slant... the game play is the same for either side. Why not release an expansion later on, one with different gameplay mechanics and have the balance issues worked out already instead of releasing yet more patches to cover the patches(IE: Star Wars Galaxies).
I do like the fact, also, that they(the developers of STO) have embraced the community and allowed future players of STO to express their opinion on what aspects should be in the game. They even have Micheal Okuda and Andrew Probert in on the project to make sure STO is Star Trek enough.
The one problem I have is how long it's going to take for the darn game to be released! Mid to late 2007? Good grief! I'm going to pull my hair out waiting for this game! I can't wait for the Beta... boy would I like to be a tester... shoot I bet 95% of Star Trek fans would like to be one.
I really think this game will appeal to gamers, not just Star Trek fans. I look forward to getting my hands on a copy. Now if only I could travel forward in time to see how the game works out...

Of Guitars and Games
by DirkRendar on Comments
I do so wish to see that concert with Joe Satriani and Eric Johnson but it appears things have conspired against said wish. The weather, the lack of funds, the lack of job... Even though there are a couple weeks until April 1st I doubt things will be any better by then. Not that I don't have hope but it is considerably diminished.
I can always listen to my collection of Satch albums and the couple Eric Johnson albums I have. It's better than nothing. Either that or play some guitar myself and record it somehow... Okay I know; not the same. My playing is no where near the calibre of those two musicians. I call what I do with my guitars a hobby because I could never call it a job. No money made that way for me.
In case anyone reads this(hah, and cares), my Guitars are an Ibenez acoustic and a Gibson-Epiphone electric. I've been playing since my sophomore year in high school, about 9 years.
If things proceed as they have been then I may end up forgoing the concert for a little less fun. Perhaps a game purchase, perchance? Maybe an expansion pack or two... Then again a wah pedal or some other type of guitar-related equipment sounds awful nice. Hmmm... A compromise I might just by Guitar Hero with the controller and see how that turns out! Then again... My PS2 is not what I would call reliable but you use what you can.
A parting remark: Satch Rocks!!
To Buy or Not To Buy...
by DirkRendar on Comments
That is the question. Whether or not I should buy the Xbox 360 or wait until the PS3 and the Revolution have been released and make my decision then? The fact is I have little funds to work with and my work is a little thin right now. Thus the pay is a little thin. $500 to what is it $1000 for a 360? Hmmph.
I can make an educated guess that the PS3 and the Revolution will be about the same... perhaps a little less. I'll have to wait 6 months to a year to find out.
I would like to see what each system is like before I decide on paying that much money. Plus there are other interests that may take cash in order to do.
Such as a concert I may(hopefully) be going to in Denver, Colorado. Joe Satriani with special guest Eric Johnson at the Ogden theater. Now, I 've never been to Denver, nor to a Satch concert so my interest is rather high here. It's about $40 a ticket plus travelling expenses(I live at least 6-8 hours away from Denver and the concert starts at 8:00pm). Gass and hotel included it should be a considerable cost. I would like to have a few friends go with me as well and I am considering paying for their tickets.
Much to consider...
Updated: Nope... didn't end up going to the concert. It didn't work out for me... Maybe next time.
