I'm not sure if this topic is appropriate. I think it's worthy of discussion, so that is why I've created it, but I guess we'll see. If it gets too bad, please mods close the thread.

Now I know that many of you dislike Soulja Boy, so you will automatically think that I am dissing the wii. And you know, I'll be honest here, maybe I am, but regardless, I really do think there is a connection between Soulja Boy and Nintendo and therefore a number of similarities.

First of all both of them are killing their respective industries. Nintendo is degenerating video game standards. Proof is self evident and can be seen in the GT user populace who truly believe that wii games like 'Wario Land: Shake it' and 'Blast Works: Build, Trade, Destroy' are games worthy of purchase this Christmas above the likes of gears2, R2, F3, fable 2, etc. I know all of you have noticed the decreased quality in mainstream music too and have experienced similar behavior in the outside world regarding Soulja Boy and his music. For Example, I dunno how many of you go to dances, but if you do go to dances, 'crank that' is STILL looped virtually every 20 minutes.

Second, both of them made their respective industries more mainstream. Meaning, Soulja boy brought a bigger white crowd and Nintendo brought soccer moms, octogenarians, and other people who normally would not express any interest in video games. Some people might see this as a good thing. But I see this flux of new people as a force that will eventually saturate the industry in mediocrity.

Third, Soulja Boy and Nintendo think that they are serious business. It's no secret that Soulja Boy takes himself seriously. He believes he is a real rapper and not the teeny bopper that he is. Nintendo too, is also too full of itself. To be fair, the wii does admittedly qualify as a console, but if you want to get a little more specific, it is really just a 'gamecube 1.5 with waggle'.

Fourth, neither Soulja Boy nor Nintendo are producing variety in their industries. The idea is that Soulja Boy/Nintendo are appealing to new groups of people, and so, consequently, more people will be able to listen to what they want to hear. But in fact, this doesn't happen at all. Case in point Soulja Boy. His hit singles, 'crank dat', 'soulja girl', 'YAHH TRICK YAHH', have become so popular that they are what the majority have come to expect--phat beats with terribly dull monosyllabic word loops. As a result, other rappers that actually possess some talent are overshadowed and given no chance at all to compete. This isn't right.

At the moment, Nintendo isn't outrightly influencing a change in the games that Microsoft and Sony are developing, if Soulja Boy is any indicator of Nintendo's future, oh boy do we have a lot to worry about. Another indicator of Nintendo's lack of variety is their past and future line. There are virtually no hardcore games and no innovation at all. Instead franchises are continuing to borrow on their past successes whil doing NOTHING new and no new IPs are being created. For example, Mario Kart and Brawl got even more watered down, and although galaxy, corruption, and twilight princess are pretty good games, they still feel like the exact same thing we played on the N64 and gamecube but with waggle now. I'm sorry, but except for the waggle, I fail to see the innovation in those games. As for the wii's future line up, the conduit looks lamer then the lamest fps on either the 360/ps3. Even 'Legendary' (the game nobody reviewed) looks more exciting then the conduit. And Madworld??? Are you kidding me?? You think over the top violence set in a cartoonish world is hardcore??

I could go on and on, but this is getting long so I'll end it.

tldr; Anyone else see the similarity between Nintendo and Soulja Boy and if you do, what do you think this bodes for our gaming future?

4. what self respecting gamer would buy RE5 Gimped wii eddition?? at least RE4 was a last gen game so saw at least the same standards

thegoldenpoo

Exact reason why I'm not buying the inferior Fallout 3 version, even though the ps3 is the only system I have.

im glad to have a 360 :D

you see the multiplat argument is often overlooked but the 360 is the lead dev platform.

The 360 is the limiting reagent. It's less powerful, so the ps3 feels the shunt and is not used to its full capabilities, unlike the 360 which practically runs at max power.

Yeah, it's definitely AAA. it's going to get a higher metacritic then Gears2 also. R2 revamped itself completely. Gears2 is more Gears1.5.

[QUOTE="DisgaeaNub"]MGS4. It's good, but its storytelling is not better then books/movie good. Oh, and its emphasis on cut-scenes detract from the gameplay and make the two uneven, but MGS4 superfans will tell you that it is evenly placed. They are fooling themselves.thesmiter

don't try that, i already have. i've been told my comprehension skills are lacking because i didn't appreciate the godliness of mgs4. i tried to explain the books thing, but i don't think mgs4 hardcore fans understand books. at least the ones that called me ignorant.

but yes, books are where i go for great story-telling and amazing character development. you won't find better of either anywhere else.

Yeah, absolutely. Did you see that thread that's like 4 threads below this one? It's like a cesspool of incest in there. MGS4 mega-fans forced to create a 'mgs4 thread of awesomeness' to convince themselves that the storytelling is the pinnacle of perfection. Lol I've never seen something so pathetic.

[QUOTE="Jaysonguy"]I'll break it down The Wii is in second place in sales, no dev is going to waste money making games for the first loser When the Wii sells enough to be the lead platform then things will chance. As of now it's wrong to ask a dev to take a loss making games for a console not in the lead.rgame1

aha

ahahah

hahahahah

he he

hehaha

and i thought my jokes were bad.....

I have no idea what the first person is saying, but he's not exactly wrong. Why spend 5 freaking years developing a game, only to release it on the wii? Do you know how much energy and time was spent? For the wii, you spend at most 2 years developing a game tops. Maybe more if you are mentally impaired like the people are that develop those zelda games that are identical to the exact gameplay structure of the original game released in 1998.

[QUOTE="DisgaeaNub"]Allies vs Nazis have been done countless times already. Allies vs futuristic nazis isn't going to be much different. Don't tell me you people didn't get the same vibe.NinjaMunkey01

Allies Vs Nazis never gets old! :)

I'm excited for the game, and I'll get it day one. But it really isn't going to be that great.

It does nothing new that other games haven't already done. It will have a great campaign with a lot of varied environments, just like the first game, much better graphics, hopefully better controls (i heard that the controls are off or clunky, but that could just be the guys that think every fps should play like halo), and a cover system.

There is nothing here that hasn't been done before. As long as it is extremely well polished I won't care though. But this game probably won't get AAA and I know that I will forget it in a week after beating the sp.

You're mistaken. The first guy is ignorant, and the second guy was calling him on his ignorance. Then because other people disagreed with what the second person had to say, they labeled him a troll because labeling someone is a lot easier then debating them in constructive debate especially when you know you are wrong beforehand.
