Gears of War 2, DONE!

So if you didn't know (well obviously not, I haven't told you) I got several new games on Black Friday. I got Lego Batman and Star wars: The force unleashed for my younger brother, and I got myself Gears of War 2. Since I really had no work over Thanksgiving break as you can tell from my 360voice blog I've spent most of my weekend playing this kickass game. Now it's been rather difficult playing the damn game with my xbox overheating so often. I'm still not 100% sure what is wrong and how I can fix it, or deal with it. Of course I can send it to MS for a fee of $100 but with Christmas fast approaching, I need my money for other much more important things. I mean spending that much money for repairs, or spending money purchasing another Xbox would feel like such a waste. I could use that money to buy myself a PS3, thus completing my collection. As of now I've tried both dismantling my xbox and elevating the power brick, which may be the problem as to why my console overheats. I've also tried turning a fan on max over my console and it's power brick. Today I was actually able to play almost the entire day without the console crashing on me. But then my brother decided to play some Force unleashed which then led to the console crashing yet again. My guess is that since I have Gears of War 2 installed onto my HDD the disc not spinning plays an important factor in the console not overheating. This is just a theory as I am not 100% sure. If anyone has a suggestion as to what I should do please let me know, I need help desperately, hahaha. I haven't tried playing Gears online so I really have no idea how that will fare. *On a side note I should hopefully have a review (a rather late review) of the game up soon, thanks for tuning in...*

Xbox 360 Warranty (Welcome Back)

Hey all friends and those that have been tracking my up until now dead blog, I don't know what exactly pushed me to begin writing on my blog anew but I am definitely not in a good mood... I mean Thanksgiving was great, I love it, it's probably my favorite holiday, but that is really not the issue... the issue at hand is, yes my Xbox 360. Now I've been surprised at how well Microsoft has done with their second foray into the gaming world. It's no small feat but they are technically at the top of the heap (at least in my opinion) of the gaming world. Of course the Wii outsells everyone and their mother, but the lack of quality titles out for the Wii is disappointing. The PS3 has bounced back from an embarrassing first year to go toe-to-toe with the 360. If you've seen Gamespot's latest graphical comparison you can see the 360 is slightly on top, but in the end it's just nit-picking.... but I'm going off topic; my 360 is not working and for lack of a better word, this royally SUCKS! This is my second Xbox and quite frankly I don't care if this is a totally new console or my old refurbished baby ( I don't really remember). And since it was shipped to my house it's been doing fine, though I do remember it would occasionally give me a message that the disc I was playing was unreadable, for whatever reason. But the real problem started several months ago when my 360 would inadvertently shut-off, giving me two read rings on the two left quadrants. This signals that the box is overheating, which is strange because the console is properly ventilated. unfortunately I just recently found out the warranty was to expire (two days before it was to expire) and I didn't act in time to call customer support. Long story short, i have to pay $99 to get my box fixed... HELL NO! Really MS the end of the warranty should apply to those who purchase a system after the end of the warranty, I don't care about the politics all I care about is gaming. I know you've lost enough money as it is, but this is just ridiculous that I can't play the three new games I just purchased. I'll either have to pay the money or buy a brand new Xbox. And for the record, yes I do need a repair, and there is nothing I an do to fix this.... I've tried, and tried.... and tried again and again. But anyway I'll see how I can get outta this one, if not, it'll be more blogging for me, and more Super Smash with my little brother. Tune in next time guys...

Braid... strange game lol

So last week i spent $15 on this fancy new title called braid which is getting universal praise for it's "amazing" and "innovative" gameplay. Now i just beat it today with the help of 360achievments.org and a very kind proprietor who put up videos of his victory on youtube (whether that was a noble endeavor or not will be up for debate another day). What can i say about this title, it usually takes me some time to come up with an opinion on games but as of now it was definitely an interesting game. i wouldn't exactly call it innovative per se but who am i to judge when I've never made a game in my life lol. I suppose the best way to describe it is, it's a hybrid between Super Mario (2D) and Prince of Persia. The symbolism is rather confusing, I mean I didn't necessarily take the time to try and figure it out so it must mean something but i was lost once I reached the end. I suppose it's really up to you the gamer to play this game for yourself, as my analysis or anyone else's may not suffice. It wasn't that impressive to me though I'm in no way demeriting the game as it is worth playing. Strange game indeed.

Hey everybody I'm still here! lol

Hey all, I doubt anyone will really read this blog since it's been forever since I last blogged, but I felt maybe I should try and get into the habit (yet again) of trying to blog regularly. There have been a plethora of games I've bought and played since, what... christmas 2007 lol. Since it's kinda late I won't be able to remember all of them. The most recent is Geometry Wars Evolved 2; awesome game, simply amazing, I'm in love with it. Since it's been a while since I last gamed on my 360 the release of this game has been a bit of a surprise but I jumped on it and I've been having a ton of fun in the last couple of days. The game modes are really fun but it's a shame that there is no online multiplayer. Obviously some modes are much more fun then others, and of course I much more prefer the regular old evolved mode. My purchasing of games is on a bit of a hiatus but hopefully some time in the next few months I should get my life sorted out and maybe we can get the gaming started again. Stay tuned :)

Christmas blog

Well HO-HO-HO to to everyone and I hope this x-mas has been good for you all I'm positive this is one of the best holiday seasons in gaming history. I recently received Super Mario galaxy, Mass Effect and Bioshock for Christmas and I'm couldn't be any happier. Right now I took a break from collecting stars in SMG to emerse myself in the undersea city of rapture. Bioshock is blowing me away (I know I'm rather late to the party) it is an outstanding interactive experience. The little I've played of Mass Effect has also exceeded my expectations; M E truly has the best dialog in any game I've ever played, I can't wait until i can get my hands deeper into it. As for Super Mario Galaxy it is also a superb game, it is a ton of fun and has finally gotten me to turn on my Wii for once. I plan on getting some reviews up, there are quite a bit I want to do on games I've played. I also recently purchased the xbox 360 chatpad which is actually pretty nifty but the thing is I don't really have and MSN contacts so I can't im people while I play :( So let me kno what is happening in everyone's worlds and again I hope everyone is doing well.

Gamerang!

Yes I am close to making the decision of subscribing to Gamerang, which is the east coast's equivalent of Gamefly. After noticing my ever increasing pile of xbox 360 games and of course the ever increasing price I've decided that spending so much money on games is not such a great idea. But on the other hand paying a monthly fee may cost me more yearly in gaming than in actually purchasing the damn things. It turns out that after crunching the numbers gamerang will prove more cost efficient; on top of that I have noticed that my interest in games has dwindled and I have become more picky as to what i consider a game worth my money. case in point Assassins Creed, a great game but definitely not worth the regular retail price of $60; its achievements don't give it any longer lasting value as many of them involve searching for pick ups (boring). Another good example can be said about Bioshock, which is one of the greatest games to have come our way, but due to the fact that it is single player only it may be only worth a rental on gamerang. Now I doubt I would want to give it back once I become immersed in it so that may actually be a bad example but you probably get the gist of what I'm saying. In other news, I seem to be having problems syncing my Zune to my PC; I keep getting an error message that I am missing the required packages to install it. I'll need to do more research as I would really like to use my Zune.

I got a PSP, and other delayed news...

So yea according to the title I got a PSP, two as a matter of fact; I have a black PSP and a brand new Silver Slim PSP. No they're not new but they work perfectly fine. And no they're not stolen either, they were found with a myriad of other goodies as well. Those of you who have PSP's and wouldn't mind helping a brother out should let me know how to set up and use the various online functions for the handheld. The games I have are Daxter which is a pretty good game, and the family Guy Game, which is.... a not so good game. From checking the former owner's memory sticks he has Metal Gear Solid Portable Ops which would have been a welcomed edition but unfortunately he didn't lose it along with everything else. In other news I've purchased both Call of Duty 4 and Assassin's Creed. Call of Duty 4 is an amazing experience and easily my game of the year candidate; great game with long lasting value. As for Assassin's Creed it has some very cool innovations for the genre as well as for gaming in general, but to me it seems a lot like a glorified pick 'em up game; hopefully Ubisoft will change the annoying citizen saving and what not, reminds me a lot of the Spider-man games. I also happen to have a Zune no which is pretty cool, though I like the ipod much more, my dad already took hold of that... does anyone know how to make the Zune password enabled? Its really the only way I can see myself putting music into it so my dad won't go into a rampage over what I'm listening to. hopefully if I find time between gaming, homework, and finals I can put up all of the reviews I've been wanting to do, cya until next time everybody.

Long awaited

Yup, I'm back I know its been a long time since I've last written a blog here on G-Spot but I've been super busy as of late... but let me not be rude and give everyone an update on what's been going on. In the gaming hemisphere of my world I beat Metroid Prime 3: Corruption (in August), now I know I was going to write a review but its a bit too late, well actually its not but I don't know if I have time. The game was an amazing experience I I honestly feel sorry for those foolish enough to pass it up for fickle reasons like graphics and such. It was an amazing conclusion to the Prime trilogy, I can't wait till the next installment in Samus' story. I recently purchased The Orange Box, which is a very, very impressive package of gaming. Team Fortress 2 is a blast and one of the most strategic multiplayer experiences out there. As for Half-Life 2, what is there to say that hasn't been already said. HL 2 and its subsequent episodes are some of the most mind blowing entertainment experiences out there, it should not be missed. Even I who was tired of FPS am loving HL, its really great. I had a difficult time choosing this game though as I was thinking of getting Halo 3, but Masterchief will have to wait. I've also DLed Super Puzzle Fighter HD, Puzzle Quest and Yaris. SPF and Puzzle Quest are really good games, as for yaris I haven't played it yet but I'm not expecting much. As for non game related business I've started college and its been good so far. I've met a lot of cool people, some good looking girls but I haven't seen enough of the upper classmen to say anything. I'm a bit worried that i may be failing a few classes but its still midway through the semester, and I'm definitely going to kick it into high gear. But thats about it, I'll try to blog more frequently and in more detail about important things lol.

Heavenly sword- IGN score

IGN.com has given Heavenly Sword for the PS3 a 7/10 (keep in mind that they use a scoring system similar to G-Spot's old system). Now I haven't read the review in depth but yet again the PS3's gaming library is at a lackluster level; now obviously one title isn't going to make the system shine, but this was being touted as one of the PS3's killer apps. There have been other review from not so reliable sources but a 7 is simply not good enough for an exclusive on a system that is lacking in AAA titles. Really all this game has going for it is its impressive graphics, but the game unfortunately is an empty shell. Its a bit comical that many were saying that this game was not going to be a God of War clone, but IMHO that could have been the best thing to happen Ninja Theory's title. I just wish Kojima surprised us tomorrow with MGS 4 and at least alleviate Sony fans worries, because at this point it is rather excessive. Not to say that the PS3 does not have anything going for it, but it simply would not be good for the industry as a whole if Sony faltered to the degree that Sega did not too long ago. Disappointments like Heavenly Sword are what keep me from purchasing a PS3 to complete my holy trinity of next-gen gaming... *sigh* Kojima-san where art thou?

OH $H!T video game moment #2 (Revan... wait what!)

Here I go again with my second installment in this series of blogs (I Kinda want to make a habit out of this); I don't even know if I've given people enough time to read the first one but anyways, I'm going to talk about a particularly amazing moment in a very awesome game. I myself am an avid RPG enthusiast, and when I bought this game I told myself I had to get my PC up to the task to playing it (back in those days I was and infant in the PC business... now that I think about ti it was too long ago). So the game is Star Wars Knights of the Old Republic which had won many accolades the year it was released. So I got into the mix a bit late but I couldn't have played the game any sooner. Here's a brief synopsis of the game: Set several thousand years before the Star Wars movies you play as a Republic officer on a downed ship which was attacked by a Sith armada, you're tasked with defending a certain Jedi who possess a certain ability called battle meditation which in the worng hands can mean teh defeat of the Republic and the reign of the Sith. So yea eventually the battle lines are set, Darth Revan and his apprentice Darth Malak, against the Republic and the Jedi... *SPOILER WARING* So about mid-way through the game you find out that Darth Revan, the former leader of the Sith who have been menacing the Galaxy and you are one and the same person; The master-mind behind this entire conflict is unknowingly you sometihng which your team-mates react to in shock. This freshens up the story giving you a twist and altering you ultimate goal. *SPOILER WARNING OVER* This was one of the most surprising plot twists in any video game I've ever played, Leaving a lasting impression on me. The way it all culminated and how all of these little clues were there for you to know the truth yet it still caught you completely by surprise. Genius Story telling.
