At least when Nintendo was coming to market with WiiU; they had an excuse for being delusional about demand because they were coming off the Wii which sold 13 million units by the September after launch. MS is coming off of a console known for a 90% failure rate for the first four years of its life-- they are totally boned.

They have already cooked this bird and they're just going to have to either deal with selling only 10 million consoles over the next four years or they are going to do what they did to the Virtual Boy and abort.

They made five big mistakes with WiiU:

1. They should have launched the console in 2010.

2. They should have included 4GB of RAM. This would have cost a big tech company like Nintendo ten bucks more.

3. They should have built the console and the games around a next gen 3D-tracking remote with a wireless nunchuck+. The remote was sleek, it was simple, and people understood it. Nintendo tried to cash in on this trend of tablets, but the tablet market would rather just buy a real tablet.

4. They didn't move development of Skyward Sword to the new console and the speculative 3D-tracking remote. It seems they didn't start development on any adventure games for their new console until last year. We havn't seen so much as a trailer for a new Zelda, 3D Mario, first person Metroid, Star Fox, or a new IP. We're going into the second holiday season for this console and there is still no killer app. The only exclusive fps on the system is ZombiU and it's frankly the fat girl at the prom.

5. They called the new console the WiiU. That is just poop for branding.

Halo has been made into a dead horse by Microsoft this generation. They released six Halo games on the 360. I'm done with the franchise. I could care less. It's a two horse race now for my money and I'm happier for it.

Once you purchase the console and a year of Xbox LIVE, the taxes will bring your purchase to $599 before you buy a game.

Now I know with absolute certainty that I will not be purchasing a Microsoft console this generation.

-$500 for graphics hardware that is hardly improved over WiiU

-price inflated by hardware unrelated to gaming that I don't want

-Big Brother's Trojan Horse

-a massive hard drive for recording television (or my private hours) when I don't watch three hours of TV a week

-$60 per year for online play when the other two consoles are free to play

-must have internet connection to play games

-you never really own the games

  • Ditch kinect, not paying extra for gimmicks I'm not going to use

guess you're not getting the PS4 either.

I do find this hilarious. The PS eye, which is a peripheral that bombed, is shipping with every PS4 (supposedly)

There is no way the PS eye is going to be as expensive as Kinect2. It's built to track glowing balls, it's not always on, it's not always watching and listening, and it's not required to be turned on to play all games.

1. Present a Kinect-free package with a hard drive no larger than 70GB.

2. Turn off the aspect that requires players to connect to the internet every 24 hours.

3. No codes with games.

4. No fees for used games.

5. Silver members get 10 hours of free play per month.

The price is not important. The people who are worried about the price will just get a WiiU. There is no going back for Microsoft-- they are charging $60 a year for internet when it's free on other platforms; they are fining players to play used/borrowed/rented games; they are forcing players to purchase the useless Kinect 2; the games require Kinect to be always on; the Kinect is always watching and listening to you; and you have to connect to the internet at least once a day to play your games.

There will come a day in the future when you won't be able to play your Xbox One games because the servers have been shut down. My NES will play games until the day I die.

I've been hearing this story about AI advancing for years and the truth is it's not happening. If some developer does invest in some clever AI engine then it will be exclusive to their games unless a console manufacturer buys them and makes their middleware available to developers exclusively on their platform.

I don't care what new IPs or exclusives they have-- I'm not interested in a set-top box. I just want a game console. I don't want Kinect and I don't want a 500GB DVR. I don't watch but three hours of television a week!

When you combine a 500GB hard drive, 8GB of RAM, PS4-level chips, and Kinect-- you've got a $1,000 box. I don't care how they try to bend that pricing by getting people to sign up for five years of LIVE; you're still going to be paying out the rear.
