They really shouldn't see them as competitors because gamers aren't going to buy Microsoft's hardware...

Don't be a tool-- get only one next gen console. Buying two things that play the same games but don't communicate with each other is just moronic.

How do they remedy this? The graphics hardware is done-- the goose is cooked. All they can do is change the market to whom they are selling this thing to by removing the tablet controller from the basic package so they can slash the price to $150.

The time to release the WiiU was 2010. If they had done this; Sony would be launching in 2013 with the spectre of Nintendo's seventh console looming two years away. The WiiU as it stands is old tech. To consumers it's a $150 console priced at $350. If Nintendo removed the Fisher Price tablet from the package and reduced the price to $150-199; it would open them up to a whole new market. The market for high priced electronics are not impressed by the WiiU.

While it is an interesting direction; it is an expensive nonessential feature that is being mandated as a purchase with the next Xbox; the same as the WiiU's tablet. Combine the costs of the new Kinect and the negative response to "always-online," and you've got a system that might sell worse than WiiU.

This thread can't exist because Nintendo hasn't yet announced their next gen console...

[QUOTE="Dustin_W"]The real mistake was that they have no idea what gamers want because they constantly shield themselves from criticism and have taken their isolationism so far as to just outright cancel their E3 media conference to avoid the media all together.OreoMilkshake
That's why they're having events specifically for the media. If there was a more idiotic gaming community than System Wars I would love to see it.

There would be much more coverage, especially on live television, if they were doing an hour long press event. Instead, they are going to let media in to play games and then they go and post their videos and blogs later in the day like they always do with show floor impressions. Nintendo wants to control the message as much as possible and that is why they are going to release their promotional material through Nintendo Direct to talk directly to their audience. They want to try and avoid negative coverage as much as possible. Nintendo is trying to replace the media with their Nintendo Directs like state-run news in North Korea.

It's been funny watching Nintendo fanboys squirm and try and pretend this is a good thing today. Nintendo's leadership is totally out of touch. Iwata made a statement about how the big mistake Nintendo made was in not communicating what the WiiU was. The real mistake was that they have no idea what gamers want because they constantly shield themselves from criticism and have taken their isolationism so far as to just outright cancel their E3 media conference to avoid the media all together.

Only crazed fanboys are taking this news as a positive. They are going through denial.

They have nothing to show

Whether true or not; that is the optic. This is Nintendo conceding defeat and trying to sneak by E3 without getting chased with torches because they know they are going to disappoint. There are only two things I can take away from this-- either Nintendo has nothing interesting for WiiU and it will spell the demise of the system or Nintendo is putting a bullet in the platform. Either way, the WiiU is dead.
