Of course it's fantasy and of course it's fiction. Nobody said otherwise. That still has absolutely nothing to do with what they were complaining about, which is that the game is sick, and crosses the line.MrGeezerWhat line does Mortal Kombat cross? Oh how dare that nice Asian boy defend himself against the four armed freak trying to kill him?
There is in fact at least one game where you get to re-enact the Columbine massacre. It exists. If your entire criticism of it is that it is based on a real event, then one could just as easily change the names, put it in a completely fictional school, and still have it be the exact same game about murdering kids.MrGeezerSuper Colmbine Massacre RPG?
An indie deveolped game that was released by online download?
I mean there is nothing stopping anybody from making that, playing that or being disgusted by that.
And again, there are absolutely games based on real battles, in which you play a soldier in a battle in which real people actually died. MrGeezerYup.
Historic battles taken place during wartime. Stuff that you can read in any history book.
Difference being these deaths are not 'murder'.
Wartime casulties.
If I released a game in which the goal was to rape fictional women, and then tried to justify it by saying, "hey, it's all fiction, it's not like it's real or anything", then you'd call bull$*** on that, wouldn't you? The fact is that the whole "it's not real" argument is BS. Games exist for people to escape into fantasy, and by flat out dismissing criticisms on the grounds that it's just fantasy, you're intentionally deflecting attention away from why you find that particular fantasy appealing. You can spend hours playing a videogame in which you murder hookers and run over civilians and then defend it because "it's not real, it's just fantasy", but someone can defend ANYTHING on those grounds. Being based on something real isn't even the point. Because as stated, many games ARE based at least in part on real events, and get a pass. If you can defend a Jack the Ripper game because you don't play the villain, then you're admitting that being based on reality isn't what makes a game "cross the line". If you can defend a WWII shooter because it simply has you shooting Nazis rather than dealing with the death camps, then you're admitting that "real" and "fake" aren't even the issue.MrGeezer1. Rape game would never get released. (Unless by an idie developer releasing it online)
2. Games are fantasy I already said this. Games are not you fantasizing about killing people you know, and if they are for you then that is a problem with you. Not the game.
3. I never said games based on reality cross the line. I said a game that has no point other than to put you in the shoes of a mass murderer as he walks through a school killing children is crossing the line.
4. Nazi game showing the death camps would be ok as long as the whole point of the game wasn't gassing Jews or something.
Lets put this plainly.
You have a game like GTA where you CAN go around killing pedestrians and hookers.
It does not encourage it, but you can do it.
Choice.
The player makes the choice.
The game cannot be held responsible for what the player chooses to do.

[QUOTE="Dylan_11"][QUOTE="MrGeezer"]If I play a Columbine Shooter game and fantasize about murdering kids, that's okay because "it's fantasy"? MrGeezeru wot m8
Obviously that's not fvcking ok.
Why are you even asking this?
Then you shouldn't have a hard time understanding why people would have a problem with games that let people live out their fantasies of beating hookers and running over pedestrians.Fake hookers. Fake pedestrians. Your example was a school shooter based on a real school shooting. Obviously that is crossing the line. Jesus Christ this isn't hard man.
