To me, it definitely seems like there's an agenda to make games the gold standard. A thread got started with the games vs. sales debate, exluding the "no standard" option, it was accepted, and another thread was made to determine how to do it. After a community outcry, this most recent poll was made and with some pushing from other forum members such as subrosian, the 4th option was added with the pretense that the 4th added option had to outweigh all other options to be considered. I didn't think it was likely, TBH: I expected the 4th option to have the most votes but not get the majority it needed.

When I came back later today to find out how the tallying was going, I was suprised to find that the thread was gone: couldn't even get to it through my posting history. I notice this thread has been unstuck and that subrosian has posted up that, at the time of your discussion, the 4th option was indeed winning. Enter lengthy discussion as to why the results were thrown out (bias against games), and then enter my confusion why this biased poll was thrown out immediately, and the other one was accepted immediately.

Not only that, the pretense used for this poll (No option has to outweigh all other options) won't be carried over to the new one because of "happiness optimization?" Heck, if we're worried about keeping the majority here happy, lets just put up a poll with each system, declare a winner, and close the forum.

Maybe you still don't see why there appears to be bias, but it certainly seems that way to me.

To be fair, I was one of the ones who voted games originally, but given the option to vote for niether, I would have gone that route.

Mods, why are you so insistent on forcing a "winner" on SW by some measure? Ultimately, this forum is outdated and unneeded if there's a system in place to determine a winner: just have the SW link go to a table with the "accepted" statistics. Since you aren't planning on doing that, what's the point of all this?

Wether or not you feel your individual biases are showing through, it's now plain to see that there were indeed biases in the first two polls: the first one by arbitrarily deciding that "no system" wasn't an option, and now this one by throwing out the count because you feel it isn't fair. You guys say you don't have an agenda, but to us "common folk," it certainly seems like it.

SSBM always took some skill to play - I've seen some of the best smashers in the world at MLG events, and you can't tell me they're way beyond your typical smash player. Since I'm not a fighter guy myself, I have to say that more traditional fighters take more skill, because that's all I hear from fighter afectionados. All those people can't be wrong... can they?

Previews make it seem like 2k8 will have a deeper Franchise mode, so I'll proably go for that. I'm waiting for a 2k8 review, though.

If you're a sheep, how would you not know that Beautiful Katamari is on your own darn system? Heck, I'm going to wait for the Wii version myself because Katamari begs to be played with the Wiimote. The Eternal Sonata thing I can understand becuase you don't HAVE to accept the ESRB thing, but still.

ESRB is, for the most part, pretty accurate when they make mistakes. The ESRB thing was confirmation enough to me, and this is just an extra nail in the coffin, like when gamespot finally gets ahold of a news story. :P

It's definitely an AAA title, but not the revolutionary game it could have been.

Chalk me up as another person who thought Eternal Sonata was already announced as a multiplat.

Beautiful Katamari wasn't an exclusive to begin with, was it? Already on the Wii?

Ace Combat 6 to PS3 just makes sense: how in the heck did a regular PS3 title ever become a 360 exclusive in the first place?

EDIT: Check the wikipedia entry for ES. I remember the ESRB shenanigans. This is old news.

I don't really have an opinion either way - someone a few posts above me said that the real problems would start when alternative arguement threads started getting locked and such, and I agree. The PC thing needs to get figured out, though - is it considered a gaming system, and if it is, then that's the final word. If it isn't, then stop penalizing 360 and to a much lesser extent PS3 for having games ported to PC if it isn't a gaming system. I was glad when PC sticky got made just so the debate got settled to a degree, either way.

I initially liked the games vs. sales stuff, but lots of good arguements from you guys have swayed me. If we're going to use points and official standards and such, why not just have a chart? Why have forums?
