That is exactly how i feel and lets see lets look up Gta4 on esrb.com rated m for Intense Violence, Blood, Strong Language, Strong Sexual Content, Partial Nudity, Use of Drugs and Alcohol well start with instense violence i see much worse in pg-13 movies, next blood Ive seen more on CSI, strong language at school i hear more uses of the "F-bomb" then every other adjective in the world combined, Strong sexual content seen worse on VH1 or MTV same goes for partial nudity, and use of drugs in alchohal well living in the harione capital of the USA ive seen so many ppl screwed up from drugs in real life much more then GTA and I have seen much more uses of drugs like they are good on movies flipping through the channels GTA 4 is just a compil of all that and thats why ppl hate it because it is a game. I cannot look up my homework without coming across porn. But do my parents worry about that as much as the fact that i go to my cousins and play GTA and see these pixils in a car but not really seeing anything.No.

or has a family with video games involved in "family time" is familiar
with the ESRB (Entertainment Software Ratings Board), and their game
ratings. All games must pass inspection by this board and cannot be
sold in stores or distributed until done so. The current ratings are:

EARLY CHILDHOOD
Titles rated EC (Early Childhood) have content that may be suitable
for ages 3 and older. Contains no material that parents would find
inappropriate.

EVERYONE
Titles rated E (Everyone) have content that may be suitable for ages 6

fantasy or mild violence and/or infrequent use of mild language.

TEEN

These ratings are supposed to be meant as guidelines. But, they are
now being used as strictly enforced laws upon children and teenagers.
I find this to be a ridiculous way of government control, and parental
overpowering. I know that there are no specific laws stating that
parents have absolute control, but that is obviously an implied power
of parents. But parents are not using them as guidelines, they are
using them as rules as well. I know this sounds like a complaint,
because I am only 16 and not allowed to buy M rated games, without my
parent being present, but it not a complaint, well not a personal
complaint. I find it ridiculous that children are restricted from
everything, such as exposure through TV or movies or games, to
violence, drug abuse and later towards adulthood sex. We are human
beings, it is our nature to enjoy things that stimulate us, like
drugs (For the record, I do not do drugs, never will, and never have), it also human nature to be violent, to fight, and humans are
very sexual creatures, it has been that way since day 1, about 30,000
years go or so (or whatever you believe, since many people think differently about when humans came to be.). We should be exposed to it earlier in life, rather
than later, so we are expecting it. I mean I obviously understand you definitely should NOT be buying a game like this for a ten year old, but, for a 16 year old to not be able to buy from himself is ridiculous. You can trust us with our licenses and cars on the road, but not a simple video game.

One point I see that I don't understand is the fact children are
barred from being able to see violence, or blood, etc. In movies or in
TV, or video games. So, what they are telling me is, if they saw
someone get hurt in real life, and they were bleeding, a doctor would
tell them, "No, you can't see this, your not 17, the government said
so." That is pretty much what I am getting out of that one. Yes, I do
understand the difference between real life and video games, or TV or
movies. But think about that for a minute will you.

A second point is that our government was constructed by the framers
of the constitution to not be ALL powerful, and they explicitly said
"The Government cannot govern without consent of the Governed." Are we
not the governed? Do we not live in America, under the laws of the
constitution, like every other adult in this country? They want us to
conform to their norms, and follow their laws with no privileges aimed
directly towards us? Look at the absolutely stupid Child Labor laws,
saying that a child cannot work until he/she is 16. What if your
family was going to lose their house, and the only you could save it
is by getting a job giving the money to your parents to save the
house, but you were only 13, or 14, or 15 years old. You would lose
your house, and live on the streets, but the does the government care,
NO, not a chance in hell. Our government is comprised of a bunch of
rich, selfish, conceded people who only care about lining their own
pockets.

A third point is, why cannot we not enjoy the same entertainment as
everyone else? Adults can enjoy anything they please, but can we,
NOPE, we cannot, but we are still expected to follow rules, and laws
aimed us. Am I the only one that sees something wrong that? Can
someone explain whatever piece of info im missing there???

A fourth point would be the fact that it is just a GAME! In no way is it real, or does it depict real life situations. It is 100% fiction! For example, we will use the incredibly controversial game series, Grand Theft Auto. Now, i once on the news some gameplay to show how "bad" it was. It Grand Theft Auto 3, and the character was driving around in a tank, blowing things up. Now, people are worried about kids reenacting things they see in games...HOW THE HELL WOULD A CHILD GO ABOUT FIRST STEALING A TANK, SECOND KNOWING HOW TO DRIVE IT, AND THIRD START BLOWING ROUNDS WITH THE 100 POUND MISSILES HE COULD NOT EVEN PICK UP!? I think I am missing something there? The news channel made themselves look like complete morons there... Or for instance Fallout 3, how would a child go about obtaining drugs that do NOT even EXIST, get addicted to them without not one person noticing, and then just go get a fake shot to cure him of his addiction?

One time i read a story about a girl saving her family from a turned over car. Now, would you like to know why she did what she did? She pulled them all out quickly, and they all ran to safety. Would you like to know why she did that too? Well, its because she played Grand Theft Auto. In that game, when a car flips over, it starts on fire and eventually explodes. Now, think about what would have happened if she would not have immediately reacted and got them out of the car that DID explode a very SHORT time later. A different story that read was about a man that saved a friends life by preforming first aid that he learned from a GAME. The game is called America's army. He preformed some of the first aid work he learned from playing as a military medic in game to save the mans life! That would be a fifth point, that, sometimes something in a game can help

My dad never really cared and he is the one that played the rated M shooter games (doom) and my mom never really watched me and my siblings play video games much so I could have played rated M games anyways. I work at a lot of different schools in my district and I do ask what the middle schoolers do in their spare time. Most say play videogames, and it turns out they play the violent Gears of War and Halo games a lot. Are they generally violent, not really. If another student bugs them will they punch him, yeah.

When you are a child, it's not a matter of differentiating between reality and a video game. It's about the level of exposure to the video games. The actual differentiating DOES NOT TRULY HAPPEN UNTIL LATER.

When it does, your ability to tell the difference depends solely upon how much you were exposed to as a child.

THAT'S WHY IT'S IMPORTANT EARLY IN LIFE.

So your trying to say as 12 I shouldnt play these games because when i get older i am going to be able to watch peoples head get chopped off and not even blink. Okay now this conversation is ridiculous, okay look it really doesn't come down to the games your parents let you play, the bottom line is parenting in general, i mean if some kid really did get the idea that violence doesn't matter and that it's okay to beat some kid up at school etc.. that's when the parents step in and start having some parental guidance, but as for me i've been playing rated M games for a while now, the only one i couldn't get when i was a kid was GTA III that was mostly because of the cursing and the SEX lol how come no one has said that about GTA they always talk about the violence but there is sex to, that's why but mostly M games are for blood and guts and until the New Gen games came out you have to admit the blood looked fake anyways haha
