The fact of the matter is that all technology fails to some extent. The Wii's hardware has a shelf life of 5 years anda hard drive can easily last five years. Should they stop putting hard drives in computer's just because they have a slim chance of failure. Of course not!

Actually, there is a movement to replace movable-parts HDDs with solid state memory setups. Not only for the sake of speed, but also for the issue of reliability.
