First a little background info: I am a PC gamer, but I'm not the kind who needs the very latest hardware to be happy. I currently have a 9800GT and I am fairly happy with its performance on all games. I still play most games on fairly high settings with my computer in 1920x1080 (my native res) and generally I do stay "low-range" for gaming with my hardware.

However I do feel it is time for a minor upgrade. But since my preference is to stay cheap, I dont want a massive upgrade. The rest of my computer should be fine anyway (Intel Q8200, 4GB RAM, Windows 7) So im looking at the GT430, which is $120 currently at a shop near me, and thats about the price range im looking for.

My intention: playing all games very high (lets disregard Crysis 2 in this though), using 1920x1080, Anti Aliasing ranging from 2x - 4x, averaging something like 40fps and above. Will this card do that with my current hardware? If not, what other card would I need to achieve this?

Thanks Byshop, you've been helpful. Seems likely it could be the cable, which is a big shame because the resolution looks like ass without progressive scan. :( At least I can play most of my games on the PCSX2 emulator and have them in a higher resolution that way.

Damn it, sorry, I was tired when I wrote that. I am definitely connected via component cables. I just got confused in that post.

Sorry for a very late reply!

Sntg_XL, I actually don't have a manual for my TV anymore. Or at least I don't know where it is! It is the Hisense HSL4229HDIP

Byshop, I am definitely using the composite cables. Though I have tried with the other cables too (I know, stupid idea but I ran out of other things to try) and can't get progressive scan nomatter what I do.

Alter_Echo, thanks for that but I am definitely trying on PS2 games that support it (since I am actually selecting the Progressive Scan option on games that have the option available in the menus...) I have also done the Triangle+X thing (with Burnout Revenge) and I had the same result.

Hi peeps. I am having trouble getting my PS2 to output progressive scanning. I have a 1080p Hisense TV, and my PS2 is connected to it via component cables (these, to be precise) obviously picture quality is pretty awful without progressive scanning. But whenever I select it in-game (I have tried it in Shadow of Colossus, Burnout Revenge and Mortal Kombat Armageddon) my screen always goes blue for a few seconds with a message saying "no input detected" or something of the sort... Before going back to normal resolution.

Is it possible my TV simply doesn't support 480p? If so that's pretty stupid. Really hope I can fix this somehow.. Any bright ideas?

Will do! I'll try 3DMark... I'm out of the house until thursday however so it will have to wait. I just played more of Sniper Ghost Warrior for the past hour or so and everything has been fine. I'm still kind of worried though.

Will report back if any problems persist. Thanks for the replies.

I just bought the Gothic pack Steam. When playing Gothic 2 (bearing in mind this is an old and ugly game) within the first 3 minutes, upon stepping outside I got some major graphical errors on my screen, such as a big purple line, screen flickering and a strange noise effect.. the game crashed to desktop and the flickery noise effect remained, and soon after I got a blue screen of death (which I can't read because it only stays for a few seconds before my computer restarted itself)

I tried again and the same thing happened twice at the same area of the game.

This is very worrying. I did recently overclock my graphics card briefly, but after seeing no major difference in performance I reset all the settings back to default. Did I perhaps damage my card in some way? I only upped the settings on my card slightly because I had never done it before, and in small increments... once I crashed and got errors I turned it all back to default. This was about 3 or 4 days ago, and since then I have played Sniper Ghost Warrior (a new and much more graphically intensive game) for extended periods of time without any graphical errors.

I was thinking it could just be Gothic 2 causing the problems, but I have never actually seen visual errors like that that carry over to the desktop as well, without it being a problem with hardware...

I am using a 9800GT, Intel Q8200 Quad (overclocked to 3ghz), 4GB RAM with Windows 7 x64

Well no I dont already own a GT, i'm looking to buy a card and am wondering whether the GTX is really worth the extra money it costs over the GT. Because there is a suprisingly big price difference.

Thanks a lot (:
