Been playing Runes of Magic for a while now and I gotta say I heavily disagree with all those comments above about this game.

About RoM being a WoW clone; Well, WoW didn't start it so you really can't say anything is a WoW clone. RoM does borrow some things from WoW just like WoW borrowed from Diablo and so on, but it's an MMORPG so what can you expect?

RoM has its flaws since it's still in development and was released a bit too early. There's still uncomplete stuff in it and the class balance is way off.

About RoM being free, yes it is free to play but you can buy stuff with diamonds you get with real money, or pay it with insane amounts of game money to players who buy the diamonds with real money. You can be pretty competitive without paying a single real life coin ever but at higher levels you can't compete with people who have the advantage of real life money, unless you grind your ingame gold A LOT. Still, the money situation ain't as bad as it is in Perfect World where nearly everything revolves around real life money.

The player base in RoM (on the EN servers at least) is pretty well behaved, at least when compared to WoW. There are newbs and annoying people, but there's very few utter idiots you find in WoW every day.

All in all it's a nice game that borrows a lot from other RPG games but still brings something new into the genre. It doesn't require nearly as much grinding as some games since most of the XP comes from quests which are quite varied. It's not a messiah game and I don't think it ever will be, but it's nice in a way.

This all coming from a dedicated PvE player with serious boredom for WoW after experiencing it all the way to the 80 and a bit beyond.

It's nice.. A breath of fresh wind into the industry.Of course it borrows A LOT from other games but it has some new ideas as well that make it a rather nice game.

* Baldurs Gate 2 - One of the best games ever. Played it til the end several times on different chars.

* Dungeon Siege 1 & 2 - These shouldn't be THAT good by any rate, but still I enjoyed both immensely.

* Neverwinter Nights 1 & 2 - Second one wasn't quite as good as the first one. Epic story. Liked both a lot.

* Diablo 2 - Realtime hack n slash.. not my slice of bread, but something about collecting that stuff..

I'm just a sucker for RPG games. Creating and advancing your char the way you like, overcoming all obstacles, making you think you're doing it better than anyone else could. Mostly the feeling of being unique, not having the same Super Mario as everyone else.

Loads of those..

-The whole story in FF7 and FF8.

-10-day-trial of WoW (never felt the same after getting the game)

-Somehow managing my char so that every fight in Jade Empire felt like a cheese. This was my first time playing the game.

-Most recent not too many hours ago the end of Penumbra: Overture demo. (Yes, I bought the game from Online Store right after)

I press the space bar for one simple reason - back in the days of Vic-20 and Commodore-64 the games there was no "Press any key" requests. It was either "Press a key" (which is the same as any key, never needed to be 'a' key) but more often than not it was "Press Space Bar".

The name is more than enough for me to buy this game. I simply loved the first one and I was so impressed by some things in the game that they simply can't screw up with the second part.

I got into Perfect World too after spending about a year on WoW.

While I can't yet say whether it's better than WoW I'm still playing it after WoW so it can't be that bad.

I urge you to take a look before bashing it.

I don't exactly despise Runescape. It's just that nowadays there are so much better games available, both free and paid, both installed and browser-based.

Infect999: Your avatar is just the same as someone's who I knew back in my Runescape days. :D

On my opinion WoW isn't that far from RS, actually nearly every MMO is. None the less, both are/were entertaining at the time. Now I've grown tired of both.

I'm more of a MMORPG soloer myself too. :P

WoW got pretty boring for me and I decided to try Perfect World and I gotta say it's brilliant. There's just something about it. I'm still pretty low in level there so I don't know how soloable it is, but I haven't had to team with anyone just yet. Go ahead and give it a try. It's free too.
