Umm. What does being gay have anything to do with being Straight Edge?
It's not a discriminatory based. Black, white, asian whatever. It's originally was 1. No doing drugs or tobacco products. 2. No alcohol.
That's all it was and I feel a lot of people have taken it to new extremes. So people need to stop trying to make it something that it's not.
You don't even have to like Hardcore music or go to shows to be Straight Edge.
There actually plenty of Straight Edge hip-hop artists like Twig Courage and Sage Francis who promote the philosophy.
Twig Courage is kind of in your face militant, not to fond of some of his songs but I still like it.
I've met Straight Edgers who are for the legalization of Marijuana even though they them selves don't do it but they are politically for it.
So I think a lot of people on here have had some bad run in's with Hate Edge kids, not Straight Edge. Me and my friends wont judge you if you want to drink, smoke or do drugs it's your life. Do what you want with it.

The straight edge movement is the single most idiotic, annoying, and arrogant subculture I've ever seen or heard of.

The vast majority of straight edgers that I've encountered are super aggressive ass clowns who make a show of how special and superior they think they are for not drinking or smoking, and frequently start fights with people who don't adhere to their rules.

I've been involved in a direct altercation, IN PUBLIC, that nearly turned into a fight, because some straight edge kids overhead me talking about smoking some weed, and a similar incident where me and some friends actually had to fight our way out of a house because we showed up to say hey to a friend who was at a straight edge party, and we had some beer with us. No joke, they literally ****ing jumped us, by the dozens. :|

I'm not saying that you are like those guys TC, but I think you should associate yourself with a different group, given that most of that group seems to be made up of violent jerk-offs. Or maybe you could just go without a label altogether...

Straight-Edge, another term for being completely normal but still trying to sound hardcore. I really hate straight-edge, not necessarily the people the lifestyle. Okay you don't drink, you don't do drugs and you don't have frequent sex with many different partners. Congratulations on being pretty damn normal, do you really need another name? I think it was just made up by people who didn't want to do that stuff but still wanted to sound bad ass. Its one of the most pointless terms I've ever heard.xTheExploited

I dont do drugs, drink, or smoke, But im not straight edge. Mostly because when I get older ill probably drink every now and than, But also cause labeling yourself is stupid.
