The end of the Mayan calendar isn't their prediction of the apocalypse, it's just the end of their calendar. Do you think in the future people will see our calendar and as soon as a Millennium is about to end it means it's the end of world. The allegedly first known discussion of the end of the world coinsiding with the end of the Mayan calendar was by a lady who was warned by aliens who implanted a device in her brain so they could contact each other. Prior to saying the apocalypse would happen in 2012 she guessed it would happen several times before that.

Depends on the size and nature of the nuke.

Pure fission bombs have a lower yield, and are "dirty" in terms of radiation

fission-fusion-fission bombs (hydrogen bombs) have a higher yield, but lower radiation. These are the big ones (Tzar)

Then there are the theoretical nukes, like cobalt-60 bomb. The cobalt bomb is designed to maximise radioactive output, with its half life allowing for it to cover massive areas of the world in fallout.

To answer your question: No, one nuke will not destroy the planet. It could flatten a city and cover a continent in fallout though. When considering the circumstances of the use of nuclear weapons, this isirrelevant -in the event of a nucleur war more than one (likely dozens, if not hundreds) are going to be launched.

If theoretical nukes are accounted for, a sizeable cobalt bomb detonation could have world wide effects.

You know too much about nuclear weapons, expect a knock at the door from the friendly men in black wanting a little chat.
