[QUOTE="TacoJelly"]Nintendo was never penniless, they always made profit. Nintendo could've competed with 360 and PS3, but why get a third of a pie when you can get both a third of pie and an entirely new one.
Everyone I see buying Wii's are the hardcore players. Why? because of Quality software like Zelda and Metroid and because of people like me, old gamers that just want something new.
Nintendo risked everything and hence has the greatest reward, they deserve their success.

The Wii was not a risk by comparison with 360 or ps3. R&D costs are quite low when you utilize old hardware. Even better when you stand to profit from each system sold.
But Nintendo DID risk alot!. I mean motion sensing done on a console (yes it was done on a mouse but not thew ay nintendo did it) ,No one knew if the public will accpet this new form of gaming. Alot of ppl were still use to the tradional way of gaming (gamepad). If nintendo didn't sell any system or inovate then making a profit on each system makes no difference. And making it cheaper to make games on that system is a good thing! More uniqe games from not so well known developers (called indepent studio) Why shall we allow ourselves just buy games from BIG game companies when we can get unique games. Look at XBOX developement kits! this will help keep the industry from getting stale!
